What would you prefer first? best buddy or romantic interest

When an MC meets best buddy who can relate to the MC would always be my #1. And i would usually show it when i write about it, from jokes, playful banters, and even moments that makes me feel they're really brothers in arms.

Now don't get me wrong, i have a knack for romance as well especially if the MC or the love interests had gone through a lot to earn their love, affection and care they have for each-other. Make them feel they deserve each-other and the love they formed.

I like both but I'm prefer the best buddy first and romantic interest later. What's yours?

I think it's a desire for real life to have a great friend.
Romance in modern day seems dead though.

I prefer fiction about family bonds (mother-daughter, father-son, brother-little sister) over romantic bonds and pure friendships. Reading fiction about family can make me cry (if it has truly good emotional depth).

It's a personal preference but if the choice is only between the two options above then I choose pure friendship over romance.

friends can become lovers. but i don't think lovers can become friends.
A friend can always be there despite other issues, but love can spring up issues of its own, despite trying your best..

..at least, from my experience..

then again, a friend can always stab you in the back, and you'll never see it coming...
At least, a lover will stab you in the chest, and be courteous enough to twist the knife.

so, I mean, pick your poison really.
