[Ryuk the Shinigami as a neutral observer, Misa Amane as a fanatical ally, and the family and police force as victims of the clash between morality, ambition, and false justice]

Ryuk is far from neutral (especially in the live action version, where he shows some active malice at times) - he actively encourages Light to use his book and gets much amusement from what the boy accomplishes.

Have five stories (three active here, two on PocketFM) so this could take some time to figure out for even one...

Shari, a medieval village daughter of a herbalist,
gets abducted by Liqu, a mutated slime, and transformed into one, obsessed Liqu won't leave her alone,
Shari wants to survive/not get killed on sight, while still existing in civilization,
fantasy world, with rather basic elemental magic (mages are hardly limited, people no stronger than max five times the average), sees slimes as pests, and is against monsters in general,
enemies are at first exposure, then criminal underground, later on a noble revolt, threatening to topple the country,
allies are people who can be convinced not to kill on sight, later on loyalist factions she convinces of her alignment.


Might be a double post, but after remembering a comment from the poster, I'd like to mention this a bit darker one:

Neri, a 12-year-old girl on a farm,
gets her parents killed in a raid, flees into the forest, right into a bunch of Arachnae, who kill her pursuer, and transform her (quite harshly) into an Arachne herself,
Neri got severe Arachnophobia, is basically heavily traumatized on a constant basis, and thoroughly out of her depth, and struggles a lot with her existence,
same world as above, yet mostly the huge spider lair below the forest,
enemies, maybe the guys responsible for the raid, but mostly Neri's own circumstances and what the spider sisters push her through,
allies, ironically, five very intense siscon Arachnae. Maybe friends along the way (if they survive).
