As for me, I always use Obsidian. File management is a breeze, tons of features yet still minimalist, and it can also be linked to my Second Brain.

Visual bonus: My workspace looks like a cockpit.

Edit: And I use FolderSync to back up everything to Google Drive, since my laptop is like 80 years old

I used to use Obsidian as well, but had issues with having to bolden and bullet-point certain text, so I found this site called Novlr, haven't had any issues with it since.

But doesn't this save files locally? It sounds a little worrisome (for me).

I use Microsoft Office 2021, which means I use Excel for Trivia docs and Word to write. I did try Obsidian on my phone, but switched to Google Docs, when I have to write a scene while I'm out, since it's easier to access from any place.
Basically, I can just return to my computer and copy the shit that I wrote on my phone, and when I want to take something with me, in order to finish or revise something, I can load it into a Google Doc as well, and open it on my phone without a hassle.

KDE Ghostwriter. Markdown has its limitations compared to word but the tradeoff is I get a lot more control. Word is an xml document under the hood and can wind up with invisible empty elements. Meanwhile markdown gives me direct control over where to put "begin italics" and "end italics" characters without being so verbose as to be a pain to work with like HTML.

Especially for my writing, which uses a ton of bold text.

When going out, I use Google Keep.
It's 10 times simpler than Docs as in this case there's no need for anything fancy.
Though I do think Docs on mobile is pretty minimal already.
