What do you think is the fine line between litrpg and just a typical rpg

Now I'm just lost. I have a series that I could not technically classify as a LitRPG (and I forget exactly why ~ just that a chorus of screams on another forum told me no).

If it uses game-like elements or mechanics while establishing that it is still separate from the real world, what is it then? If magic is used and a separate digital system is combined with that magic to help people battle and level up their spells and stats, but it isn't really a virtual world/game, then what is that tag supposed to be?

P.S.
I sound mad but I'm not. Just having a rough week.

What you described is a LitRPG.
If it were an actual VR/videogame world, that would be GameLit.
If it were a choose your own adventure, Goosebumps style, it would be GameBook.

If your LitRPG was subtle enough, others may have told you to use the Game Elements tag instead, but what you described seems a little too dense for that.
What is TTRPG?
Table-Top RPG. Like Baldur's Gate, but without a computer. :blob_evil:

I'd say litrpg are for those too sensitive to every i crease at numbers as rpg tend to use percentage system for bars like exp.
Also add to the fact that litrpg tend to have any ways to specifically increase the number of stats as such many prompts are always made unlike rpgs where characters tend to look at their stats only after big deals are made like boss fights or grind fest

I don't know much much "subtle" would be subtle enough to use "Game Elements" without LitRPG.
So, if a basic copy of the real world is used in the story, and magic elements are added (as well as a competitive combat system with it), that would be Lit RPG?
Cause if so I am going to use the tag in the end.

My story has a 'system', but it doesn't allow for leveling up or anything. It just has a funny stat screen. That stat screen is a Game Element, but it's technically missing the ooomph to be a LitRPG. Another example would be a story where there's no system at all, but the players keep using designations like Tank, DPS, Support, so on. Maybe they have healing potions that can be crafted in seconds and magically restore exactly 30% of thier 'lifeforce', for some inexplicable reason. Maybe the MC can create an operable military base with a few chunks of minerals and a little time, like that SC fanfic that got thrashed.
Cause if so I am going to use the tag in the end.
Tbh, if you think your story is LitRPG, it almost certainly is. Even my example of Game Elements is kinda iffy to say it's not a LitRPG. It has the potential to be a very broad genre, and you'll almost never get a complaint if you have the genre listed. Just make the numbers go up.
