:blob_neutral: LitRPGs make no sense from a game perspective. They are objectively bad games, and I wonder at times if the authors ever played an RPG in their live. The numbers, the calcs, they are all over the place. :blob_reach: The entire balance team would usually merit to be summarily shot.

RPGs meanwhile are games.

Well RPGs mean a lot of things, but in the strictly in the context of comparing to LitRPGs, we are mostly talking about the numbers and balance, and what their purpose is.

In a LitRPG rules and balance are a lot more flexible. RPG can be unbalanced but there is still a purpose to the balance, while a LitRPG the balance is honestly thrown out for whatever seems cool and flashy.

Of course actually games can be completely bloody broken too, but there are coded rules.

So yeah a answer would be, LitRPG are stories that use RPG elements. While RPG are well games.

Honestly, this description is simple and there are plenty more things to talk about.

But I want to sleep.

LitRPGs are like D&D games where the DM is way more loose with the rules in favor of storytelling and cool elements, but in writing.
RPGs are games where you play a role. This can mean many things, such as D&D, Dark Souls, or even The Legend of Zelda (yes, all of those are considered RPGs).

It's in the meaning of 'Lit' RPG. Lit meaning Literary and RPG meaning Roleplaying Game.

Basically:
LitRPG = Books
RPG = Games

Not fan of numerical stat...past hundred-thousand is hard to make it any sense. When the stats gap 2 times or more.
But u still harmed by something less than half ur defense

RPG are for games. LitRPG are for people who can't play a DnD campaign because they don't have friends.
Maybe this is why I don't enjoy Baldur's Gate. Because I'm like "If I am in complete control of the story, I'd rather write a novel"

Well, the answer to this question is a lot more obvious and very uncomplicated if you actually know what the "lit" in litRPG stands for.

lit = literary. Literary RPG. As in, it's an RPG in book/webnovel form.

And before you ask, yes, yes this definition of litRPG ABSOLUTELY does include things like SAO, Shangri-la frontier, and Bofuri. Yes, all three of those take place in actual video game worlds. But, the video game they're playing is written about in a story, and we are reading the story. Therefore, it's a litRPG.

It also equally includes all the fantasy worlds with game systems that are not actual video games inside the stories. To qualify as a litRPG, it just has to be a written story accessible in text form, and it includes an RPG system. If it meets those 2 qualifications, it's a litRPG. Absolutely nothing else matters.

If it is not accessible as a book, webnovel, or other narrative text, then it's not a litRPG.

If you want to call anything a fine line between the two, then that "fine line" might be within the realm of TTRPGs, but I think it's pretty clear what's narrative and what's flavor text and setting information for a TTRPG.

LitRPG = stories with role-playing game elements.

RPG = role-playing game genre in games.

Lit RPG = rocket-propelled grenade that was launched.

RPG-(insert number here) = a series of Russian/Soviet made rocket propelled grenades, most iconic is RPG-7.
Lit RPG = It’s when the DnD group decided to play on 4/20

RPG = The usual gathering of the DnD group.

RPG stands for Ruchnoy Protivotankovyy Granatomot, or hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher. It's shoulder fired, reusable, anti-tank weapon.

LitRPG, on the other hand, it is Literary Role Playing Game.

They are very similar.

Neither managed to kill the Royal Road mods, and it wasn't for the lack of trying.

Now I'm just lost. I have a series that I could not technically classify as a LitRPG (and I forget exactly why ~ just that a chorus of screams on another forum told me no).

If it uses game-like elements or mechanics while establishing that it is still separate from the real world, what is it then? If magic is used and a separate digital system is combined with that magic to help people battle and level up their spells and stats, but it isn't really a virtual world/game, then what is that tag supposed to be?

P.S.
I sound mad but I'm not. Just having a rough week.
