Oh man I made this argument and people were livid. If you complain about unjustified one-stars, then I want to see people whining when someone has too many undeserved 5 stars. Cuz I'mma be honest, some of the people I've seen make threads about 1-stars, to me were shit writers. And I don't mean genre-wise, I mean they were a mess in skill with what I read. They had mostly 5-star ratings and they didn't deserve them any more than Tokyo deserves to get wrecked by Godzilla every time he shows up.

1 star is for just terrible. It's so bad that the only improvement possible is to delete the sorry excuse for prose. 5-stars is for the best of the best.

But lo and behold...not a word is ever said until someone gets a 1-star. Just seems like spoiled rotten entitlement to me. You can't win this 1-star argument. Only tolerate the stupidity of it.

Oh I agree with you, it's certainly dumb to ignore one side of the coin and not the other. I disagree with the notion that middle star reviews are somehow more genuine that the other two extremes.

Yeah I admit, my logic at that time was...not too solid when I said that. There isn't really a way to decide what kind is actually more genuine.

The only stance I am willing to stand by 100 percent is that most of these 5-stars people have, you're deluding yourself if you think you deserve them. The 1-stars....I would bump most of these up to 2's, but nothing more.

To me, people getting mostly 5-stars in their writing, and then pouting when a few 1's come are just people flexing bruised ego's.

I don't doubt it though. Quite a few people on SH howl and call foul anytime anyone disagrees with them. The number of times I've seen people accuse others of trolling just for having a differing opinion makes me all kinds of doubt.

I mean I disagree with people on here all the time, but I acknowledge both sides regardless of whether I agree. I'm not out to immediately claim they are inherently malicious. That isn't so with people crying about 1-stars. They genuinely feel attacked.

This technically isn't my story to tell, but yesterday one of those "give some advice on a few of my first chapters" threads, there was this one where the guy's whole doc got deleted then changed because they didn't set the permissions. I doubt the validity of this explanation, but that's what they told me. Anywho, there goes poor old me, stumbling upon it only to get rick rolled through text. I usually don't do those kinds of things but nobody had commented and I figure I'd pitch in a little. I was not expecting it in the slightest and I laughed so hard. They seemed genuinely angry about it, but who knows.

True, which is why I just accept all 1 stars and 5 stars. I write at RR but hang out here (maybe I'll post my story here too in the future) and people do get crazy over there on stories that reach trending, even more so than here. I'm fine with even people that auto 1 star a genre they don't like. Perhaps the only 1 star I'm not fine with is a revenge 1 star from getting a bad review from someone. Had a few issues like that in RR. Dunno if it happened here

That guy also posted at Moonquill disc. I'm not sure if he posted at RR too but he really posted it on a lot of places. Hard to know who did that to him. It probably wasn't even someone here.

Where you appear to be more concerned with the people complaining, about "spoiled rotten entitlement" or say "You can't win this 1-star argument"

For me, I have no argument to win, I am only concern with the core implication of the two actions where both are blind voting.

Where one is calling a work bad inaccurately.
the other is calling a work good inaccurately.

Reducing the rating system of just Like and dislike, good and bad.

My question was

or are they different...

I have noticed that some people will just blindly give you a one star rating if your rating is too high, or if your story has tags they don't like. A lot of trolls give my more controversial stories a bunch of random 1s. Is extremely obvious that the 1s I get are non-related to my writing skills. Since I have 5 stories, and of those five, only one has awful ratings.

But my non-controversial stories are filled with 5s and 4s.
