Today I started to outline my story

In the last year, I wrote over 200k words for my various novels, which never passed chapter 10. It was always the same mistake, I never planned anything and ran out of ideas. But today, I proudly announce that I changed! I evolved and just a few minutes ago, I started to outline my new story, which I finally want to finish!

My tip as a fellow victim: be like me, plan your story.

You noticed a problem in your process and are attempting something to address it. I hope it works and even if it doesn’t I suggest you keep iterating until you are the kind of writer you want to be.

It was good you recognized it! Better now, than fifty years in the future. My usual process is:
  1. Have a plan.
  2. Then throw it away, because your character does something crazy you haven't expected.
  3. Go back to 1.

Thought this might help, so I'm sharing it.

This outline helped me in finishing my story, which was originally for 20 volumes, but I decided to rewrite it and ended with 21 anyway.

Here's my statistics in ScribbleHub and Syosetu:

I have 40 chapters of two unplanned stories. And an ongoing story of 60 chapters not planned. ?

I had the opposite problem. I‘d outline too much, I’d know everything that would happen in the story start to finish, and because of that I had no motivation to write the actual chapters

I kind of do that - but the outlines are in my head and subject to change. Every once in a while I'll write a scene out of sequence in case I might forget it.

I had the same problem! For my current story, I literally spent 2 years on-and-off (very on and off) purely planning and pre-writing chapters :blob_sweat: I finished up to like chapter 23 with up to chapter 30-something outlined in detail before I started posting it.

I was able to tweak the story and fix some major plot-holes in advance because of it, so I highly highly highly highly recommend it :blob_cookie:
