First, very sexy.
:blob_okay:

Next, I totally get where you're coming from. Sure, you could just look at what people are already wearing (like some have said), but that doesn't give you the practical knowledge to incorporate it into your writing unless you sit there and creep on people to see how they move in certain things. I actually prefer making it (or buying it if possible) to get that feeling, and while that's not always possible, there would probably be someone around me who could explain things clearly or help me to make what I want (a lot of people I know do renn-fairs and cosplay). The stalking would probably be a last resort type of thing.

I'd also challenge anyone saying "just look at what everyone else wears" to say that to actors for superhero/action films. How many changes get made to the costumes before filming starts, just to make the outfits practical? How many adjustments get made during filming because they find out something later on? Looking at Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and wearing the signature jeans and leather jacket, he had to learn how to move in them for the choreography, and then they had to adjust the actions or the clothes themselves. Patrick Stewart said that he wore his pants (trousers for the Brits) backwards as Prof. X so that he would be forced more comfortable sitting for shooting the entire day. That was something he and the costumers figured out that worked for what they needed to do.

Recently I was wondering if some character designs would work irl and due to my budget of $4, found that the cheapest costumes are either blank cloth for himation or chiton or white t-shirts for loincloth or breechcloth. So, I've started trying them out so that I can easily copy the designs or send them to an artist. This is the first of what I've tried and wanted some opinions. More will be up at later dates. Just wanted to start the convo.

You look like that guy from that Vegas movie that the meme with math comes from.

Part of the challenge is creating the clothing, assuming it doesn't exist in the first place. I've imagined some interesting outfits for some of the characters, but I don't know where to begin finding such a thing. I believe the culture I was thinking of is most closest to Japanese style, some strange dress with separate sections (bands) extending down from the bottom sleeves.
I can't sew and don't know anyone who can, so...
