This Trope Is Physically Painful (To Me)

So… you know how there was this trend of OP old sages/dragons/etc that got a lot of anime adaptations recently. I originally just thought I’d be disappointed that the OP MC chooses to hide his power or those very bland ‘fights’ again.

Then I read one about a sage with two seals and my mind is blown by one aspect. I wasn’t at all that bothered by how the sage had a vaguely explained Evil Eye and Holy Eye of restraint and release. That’s normal for these types of stories.

He reincarnated and stuff, but what was interesting was that the seal he’d placed on himself seemed to spread to every living thing in existence (human or monster regardless). I’d sure love if it the MC could investigate this thing since this is clearly related to him. The world losing advancements in magic is his fault.

So what does he do?

He does not question it.

At all.

He meets a 200 year old maid from his past life.

And chooses not to ask her when restraint seals started appearing on everyone. I suddenly realised that there are a lot of MCs who have had wilder stories. To the point I didn’t realise they’d met old entities but never ask the question: “What happened in my absence?”

I know it’s more story content if they choose to just figure it out by stumbling upon it… but why tho? There is an ancient entity right there who has seen and experienced what you want to know. You are not Luffy. What you want isn’t knowing what’s the One Piece. You are just generally asking why everyone has your seals.

I’m dead. I can’t find any good Isekai these days and these reincarnation fantasy novels aren’t doing any better.

So, the trope is "Powerful dude get's reincarnated and hides their power"?
I can understand the idea of "Able to kick ass, but don't need to."
Avoiding assassins would be good motivation.

Same with "Gods, I am FRICKING BORED! No damn challenge!" However, calling on powers to just solve your problems then would be against the idea. Maybe if the MC had a code, like don't call on his uber powers for self gain, but only to protect others when there is no other chance.

However, it has to be done properly.
