I don't believe that.

that's why i said 'if i remembered correctly'

Yeah, it's true that authors are free to write whatever they want, but the fact remains that they incorporate elements of their respective cultures and values on what they write, either consciously or unconsciously...and unless they researched well on another culture.

As you said, some hate their own societal norms, that's why they consciously try to break free from that. And that validates my point that culture and values influence one's work, it can be for the culture or against the culture.

it's still better than trying to conform to those they didn't agree with imo

Well, I won't contest that observation.

In my belief, there are times when you have to temporarily get along and there were times when you have to eventually stand your ground.

In relation to that, writing something that goes against your beliefs or you're greatly unfamiliar with, is hard.

That's why a lot of new authors create 'unbelievable' and 'illogical' character personalities.

well it's true in real life and writing, but i'm always a sucker for idealistic personas i could look up to. since in fiction you can make your character always able to beat the shit out of authority.

you might be speaking for new writers, who wanted to write something 'new' and 'different' i guess. to me it doesn't really matter if they're believable or logical. realism could go to hell as long it's enjoyable enough.

if i remembered correctly, there's the stigma within the japanese web novel community or something, that they would waifu the girls they love, and seeing the mc touching their girl would make them so fucking pissed, so the author would make the mc cuck himself.
Seen quite a few fandom made novels with harems with portal jumping anime that do just that lol.
