My friend and I were talking and the topic of the conversation switched to pen names. Lauran Bosworth Paine was a prolific writer who had about 70 pen names which I think is crazy. But, I digress. I just wanted to ask if it was possible to implement a 'switch author account' for writers? Say, I want to write fantasy and I'm being OC about keeping all my fantasy work to one pen name and do horror with another pen name. I know you can log out/log in to use another account (or can you?) but it would be faster wouldn't it if there was a feature where a writer can have maybe up to three pen name accounts in one account?

Does that make sense?

Also, this was a passing thought. Just ignore if it if you find it weird.

I personally only have one name, but I'm polyamorous with a husband, two lovers, and a dead boyfriend, so I say weird is good.

While that would be nice, I'm not sure if it wouldn't cause problems with the searchability and/or confuse readers. Like, would your pen names be different from your actual user name? What would be your primary name then? What would be found if you searched for either of them? How would your list of series be organized?
Like, I can see the merit of this but I'm just not sure on the practical front of how that'd be supposed to work.

If you wanna use different pen names, you can also just log into the accounts on different browsers. That way, you don't have to log out of one to use the other.

You don't even need different browsers. On chrome, you can create different profiles to keep the accounts separate. For firefox, you can use an extension called multi-containers and create separate containers for each account.

You could ... but then knowing myself, I'd probably be always confused which one I was using right now so I'd rather separate them by browsers :blob_sweat:

rather than having full separate accounts, why not have an account sub-setting where you can list nom de plumes and then have a connected dropdown selection (or something similar) when you post a new story where you can chose the name it's listed under?.
Then you could tweak the "series" subsection on profile pages to sort by nom de plumes if one is selected for stories.

Is that what OP is asking for?

Continuing on from Sabruness, AO3 has something similar where you have your main account but you can have multiple names under which you can post different stories. Like that?
