Suppose somebody wants a manhawa level art. What's the rate?

Okay, suppose an author has the budget of $50 for a cover. Manhawa style art. Doesn’t have to be peak but definitely eye catching. What's the rate at the moment?

I don't know too much about art commissions, but for anime/manga/manhwa art, I've seen some artists advertise their services for work like that fore a minimum of $150 USD. You might be able to find people who do cheaper online, like on Fiver or something.

Hmm, alright. Fiverr. Check.

People who can draw like this need to have a certain understanding of perspective/foreshortening, anatomy, lineart and values.

I don't think artists of that level will draw for just $50...

I mean do you have a description of what you want? Maybe we can gauge the price you might get if we know how simple/complicated you want your cover to be?

Buyer beware, I paid for two commissions for an A.I. “artist” to do some art for me. Check their portfolio, get sketchwork from their portfolio pieces (watermarks are fine) and do your due diligence. But, yeah, $150 US is what you should expect to pay, and don’t shortchange young artists. A lack of experience is no excuse to decry their budding skills.

And not just fiverr, long time ago I had commissioned artists on deviantart before.
Think back then, like 10yrs ago, I was paying around $75-90 for full body pictures of characters.
Not sure what it's like now, but thought I'd mention it.

(I sure as hell can't afford to be spending grocery/bill money on silly little novels I write online :blobrofl: )

Sounds about right.

Depending on rendering style, the same character could take 1h to 4h. 1h either means incredibly simple style or some freaking amazing artist with seasoned hands.

Well, do you generally pay artists by the hour, or by quality? That feels relevant to pricing.

I have a friend in military who does crazy art. Unfortunately he is IN THE MILITARY. So he is an artist for hobby, so he can't tell me what the current rate is. Though he did say that if he ever did commissions, he would charge by the amount of details the artwork requires.

Most artist know approximately how long they take, so they calculate their flat prices based on this and their countries prices standard. (But they could also just randomly pick a price.)

What I mean is that certain styles just naturally take longer to render/learn. Best example is WLOP vs. Cel shader. Both styles could give amazing results or totally flop.

In the end it’s the choice of the commissioner whether they’re willing to pay the price the artist states for the level of art they offer.

Yeah, amount of the details is definitely something that drives the prices up. Some request are also just naturally more time consuming (2 characters vs 1 character)
