Is there some mental trick to learn a new writing style?

I tried practicing a new writing style but more often then not I will just went back to the old style or made a mixture of both.

Is there any trick to separate them?

Writing style as in handwriting style.

As someone stuck with "chicken scratch" or "chicken scratch connected by curves" since age five, I'm afraid I can't help you.

Learn how to write with both hands. Not just your left or right hand and compare the difference.

I know how to unlearn it.

When I was in elementary school, they drilled us to use this neat, smooth cursive writing, it was this or get the beating.

When I was in high school, it was quickly forgotten.

Now, 25 years after graduation, I barely use pen & paper.
