Is it just me or do anyone else get turned off when authors bring irl politics and their nationalists jingoism to novels

Yep. Same thing happens with Hollywood movies. There can't be an epic explosion or 'humanity will prosper' speech without the USA flag covering half the screen.

As someone from a country that isn't known for media or entrainment.. you get used to it. Getting bombarded by international patriotism that is.

I've gotten to the point that I don't even watch any new movies anymore due to the constant insert of American-Leftist politics into practically everything. I also filter out my games the same way.

Anything with race-swaps, gender-swaps, sexuality-swaps, or any other typically disgusting Leftist-shtick nonsense, gets dumped immediately no matter how small and insignificant. I have a massive back log of games and other entertainment to enjoy, I have no need for anything new to waste my time on. I read far, FAR more than I game or watch anime/movies anyway.

Also, The words "modern audience" when used to describe pretty much anything just means the white male characters will be evil or gay, and the non-white characters, usually black, will be the heroes or something similar. Not always exact sure, but I'd guarantee MINIMUM 8 times out of 10 I'm correct.

Yeah. We are all used to America number one thanks to Hollywood, but I want to talk more about webnovels and manga/manhua/manhwas since I consume them the most these days.

It is annoying to see an author consantly shit on other countries. I know China, Japan, and Korea(s) have bad blood between each other, and I know none of these countries (fully) accept what they did let alone apologize on it, but please miss/mister author, stop reminding me how the other countries are big doo doo heads, and return to the main plot.

Depends. Two types I'm okay with. A character that stands in the middle and slings mud everywhere. Is just tired of it all. Reading a chapter like that every now and again is fun. Not always. Just once in awhile. Second, cultures I don't know well. I know I'm getting a skewed view of the politics of that region, and I'll get sick of it eventually. But it is a window into something I normally don't see and I'm fine with a little of it.

Been around the world. Talked to people from all walks of life and stations. Read books from everywhere. Anyone who thinks their country or culture is wonderful has a warped view of reality. It's all crap. There's some that are less crap than others, but it's all crap.

Politics involved in a story when it's relevant to the narration or character is no big deal for me, I really don't find them particularly offensive unless the authors being real pushy about it.

That said, I go out of my way to avoid self-insert, that includes any political views, where I'm from, etc, so my stories can be all over the place with what's going on/who is in them.

I am a-ok with nationalistic things because I am used to it.

"You are either with us, or against us"
-George H W Bush

So reading CN or KR, I will quickly understand that they might be hints of rants and I am used to it.

I still find it funny when Code Geass and Mahouka got some chinese crying because "wah~ they make mainland look bad~"

Same thing in the Jason Asano saga, you sound like someone who is very bitter about the current spectrum. Okay.

I mean, at this point I am fine with you being a racist, specist, sexist, religionist, ageist and or some other ist. I am used to it.

I for one however, can't really stand hypocrites. Such as when MC preach about "being good" or "do better" when they themselves are not the shining example of that. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Actually, I am wondering...
For a long time American fiction / movies have a lot of, " America! Fuck yeah!"

By not having it, or to say "American, meh"

Is that in itself, comparative to before, anti american? Because it's "challenging" to the status quo?

I want to give the characters of my multi-character series different opinions and perspectives, sometimes even toxic ones, and have them fight it out. Though not much of their previous life views translate well to their new world, they still color their decision making process in it.

I fucking love politics. Give me more politics. I eat politics up like a bowl of hot gravy. Unless it's the politics I don't agree with. In that case, boo! I don't want any of it.

But on a serious note, it really depends on execution. Art and by extension the novel is one of the most powerful tools for political messaging. But just like waving a chainsaw on stage while cutting people out of their jobs is a terrible use of a tool both literal and political, there's nuances to it. If artists and audiences don't engage with these nuances, we'll just end up with artistic discourse that goes between "Eww this thing has a black woman in it, woke DEI garbage" and "Yasss go own the chuds?" with nothing in between.

Honestly I distain when an author brings real life bullshit into the story that has no good reason to be there! It’s fine if it makes sense but when you shove IRL politics or things of a similar nature in the readers face for no reason than you wanted to vent or some shit is never going to be healthy for the story… now if it makes sense an example being something like 911 if it’s a modern day story based in a world like ours it would at least feel like it’s world building rather than just pushing your own agenda and beliefs in the face of someone who is more than likely just trying to relax and read-nyah.
