As the title suggests, I will be giving Alex a female love interest in later chapters, and that female love interest will be of a different species, but there is problem...

I'm torn between 3 races to choose:

Should I go with Beastmen, Dragonfolk, or Fairy?

Let me know in comments below and if you have an alternative option, do let me know!

Which category does Alex belong to, or does she have full control there? If mammalian, should stick to beastman or fairy lover but if metamorphic, should take the dragonfolk.
Or, if this is to be a purely platonic relationship, with a few close moments but no physical interaction beyond "chaste stuff," (holding hands, sharing life events, even cuddling but not "canoodling") then whichever one you have the most fun writing.

As of your writing, I feel any choice is a good choice.

So let's focus on the story. Alex is someone who has suffered a lot, both at home and outside of home. So while they have suffered, Mai has been a good inspiration for Alex. So, regarding your question, I would make two choices.

Option one: Mia is clearly the hero, so you need a character who will encourage Mia to do the right thing, and Alex will become the next hero based on what they know. Mia will go back home, and the love interest will encourage Alex to become the new hero, just like Mia.

Option two: Kyo will be reckless and take on the Demon King. Mia will be afraid, even though she has the power to fight the evil. Alex goes on to have a relationship that will assist or take the lead in fighting the Demon King.

So, to answer the question, someone who will side with Alex no matter what happens. In short, what you're thinking is right to help Alex by the end of the story... unless you are creating a tragedy.

thanks, to answer your question, no it's not a tragedy, it will have some tragic elements, but i believe that all my stories should have happy endings.

I think Dragonfolk, because I can more easily imagine all kinds of backstories and burdens carried by that kind of race in particular. But, it is just one of many opinions.

Describe each race for me, give me a visual. What's there height, appearance, any specific physical traits that belongs to their race? Lastly, what's the idea you have for the character/personality of this love interest?

Beastmen are Anthropomorphic with enhanced strengh
Dragonfolk are similar but with longer life spans
Fairies are similar to the ones from Winx Club, but with more insect features

As for personality, she will be similar to Alex, unwanted by her clan, she is sold as a slave to fight in the arena.

So...
Basically a Furry, a Scaly, or a Fairy?
Which one of the three do you enjoy writing most?
Which one do you feel fits the character (Alex) better?
Which do you feel would be the most rewarding narratively speaking?
Does it truly change the narrative, or are they just interchangeable aesthetics?

Or if you are really stuck, and it doesn't change your narrative much, you can always just roll a d6 (six-sided die) and leave it to fate and run with whatever result you get.

If you're thinking arena, in the gladiatorial sense, the Beastfolk or Dragonfolk/Lizardfolk would probably fit better thematically.

As for actual advice though... Here's a little focusing exercise and thought-experiment approach that I use regularly.

Close your eyes and clear your mind.
Take a few deep breaths, and let her come into focus in your mind.

She's standing there in the arena, a few feet away from you. The lighting is set perfectly so you can see her clearly.
What does she look like?
What does she act like?
What do you 'see'?
What does she say? What does she do?
Ask yourself whatever questions you need answers too as you let your mind build the picture of her piece by piece.

Thanks everyone, thanks to your input, i've decided to sculpt a Beastman character as Alex's love interest, oh and in case you're all curious, Alex is Bi-sexual/.
I was sharing my dragon wisdom with you for your storytelling efforts.
why thank you!
