Imagine Fantasy creatures as realistic as possible, without any mana and magic bullshit. They are not lovetcarft horrors with unexplainable powers.

Just saw an anime called Gate and it showed me new perspective where modern millitary meet fantasy one's quite unique if I say so, that's where this question came from
Understandable. The answer to your question depends on what is available to humanity. My opinion, you should clarify what you are talking about. Is it modern military, is it renaissance period, is it something like steampunk, or straight up fantasy? Maybe it is neolithic period.

I doubt any fantasy creatures, even hordes of them, will stand a chance against modern militaries. Most countries do not even spend 2% on their armed forces, but imagine what a 40-60% budget will look like if an existential threat arises.

People seem to have forgotten that dragons were taken care of with a dozen or so pointy sticks in old legends. We will easily take care of them if they were real. If they don't tear themselves apart from twitching in any direction with most fantasy creatures anatomy.

Have you seen sabertooth tigers? Wooly mammoths? Do you know where they are now?

Exactly. :blob_thor:

WE LOVE EXTERMINATING SHIT. :blob_catflip:

Bring it on. :blobspearpeek:

PS: Those motherfuckers went extinct when we had sticks and stones that broke their bones.:blob_ninja:

Modern humans? Without a doubt they'd be easily destroyed. Afterwards, we'd do to them what we've done to every creature on this planet. Enslave, tame, eat, hunt for sport, skin for their hide, experiment on them, and put them in zoos for our entertainment.

Even Non-Modern humans would kick their shit in. A little more challenging to be sure, but it would go over smoothly. There's a very clear reason why we've been dominating this planet for thousands of years as the apex predator.

Funny me and a friend of mine had a debate similar, her point was Toothless from HTTYD can take out human millitary because how fast he is.

But no, sure toothless is fast but our jets are faster and our missiles even more so. A 15 year old boy took the dragon out with a catapult, it ain't outrunning F-22.

But to answer your question I like to quote from a youtuber "Creature all around world depended on their evolutions in so many ways to keep their competitors in check, but everything changes when a human decided to pick a rock and throw it,"

Our ability to make tools is what made us dominate this planet, and no matter what the other species is......if humanity felt threatened we will always find better rocks sooner or later.

Humanity as if now?

Fantasy creatures without some kind of magic would get raped by conventional weaponry, unless there are like a trillion of them and they super fast (fantasy emu war).

You got your answer in the anime Gate. :blob_teehee:

Jokes aside, if we talk about simple fantasy creatures, without so-called "mana bullshit" or lovecraftian horrors, what do you expect from them? The strongest one is probably something ephemeral, something you can't touch, a ghost or a wraith. But that counts as a "mana bullshit" right?

The next one in lines are any kind of gigantic creatures. Cyclopes, dragons, krakens, etc. The only ones who can do at least a little something would be underwater creatures, but I'm not sure how good modern submarines are. All kinds of land or sky giants are not a threat. Dragons are not a threat since we have jet fighters and so on. Big walking creatures like titans, cyclopes or huge golems are even less of a threat.

What is left are miscellaneous fantasy creatures of mid-small size. They are not a threat. You can take them out with enough guns. Sure, some can be nasty, but no more than that.

As a majority of "fantasy creatures" were based on (usually bad) descriptions of real creatures... one on one they would fare just as they do in the Old Stories (eat the "NPCs" and fall to the "Heroes"); against a group of humans, even untrained ones but with modern gear? They would generally go down like wheat before a scythe. Generally. There may be exceptions though...

Without magic, the only fantastic trait that would stand a chance against humans is 'Intelligence'.
Anything smarter than a human wins. Being smart is the only advantage humans have. If it's smarter AND has a better body, then the outcome is obvious.
Elves would beat humans. Dwarves would beat humans. Dragons would beat humans. Zerg would beat humans. Goblins... Probably not.

Anything without intelligence, any sort of animal, will just be pets, food, or crafting materials.

Unclear.

Organization or civilization aren't typically human-exclusive traits, and you could easily assume a fantasy creature is part of a greater collective. Are they longer lived? Do they ponder on the mysteries of heaven and earth? Are some of their abilities not "magic bullshit" but clever manipulation of power sources unknown to human or incompatible with human anatomy?

What about rapidly-reproducing creatures smaller than the mortal eye can detect that act like diseases or miasma?

No. Because arguably the greatest risk to a group of untrained people is themselves. Understanding the basics of how to properly utilize an armament is a key factor to not crying pissing and shitting yourself when a six talon winged tiger pounces on your group. And even that isn't a guarantee you won't die or won't cry-piss-shit yourself...

Legends also have us successfully hunting elves with pointy sticks. Dwarves on the other hand...
