I don't even think incest should be considered bad. So long as you aren't having a kid with someone sharing more than roughly 15% of your DNA, there is no increased risk of physical harm, and there is never any social harm outside the context of breaking societal taboos either. Incest is no further perverse than 'culturally ideal' relationships (which admittedly can be quite perverse because so are humans in general).

I think the only time I remember reading anything where this was touched on was Coiling Dragon… iirc in that book familial relations were only considered to the great-grandparent.

for me the idea of ancient ancestors came up with Against the Gods when the MC’s old adopted grandfather and parents were way way younger than some of his love interests… like thousands of years younger.
