This is an arbitrary rule to follow and outlook. Power imbalance shouldn't be the main concern, rather persons with good morals and principles. A good man will not abuse his power.

Focusing on power imbalance is very strange, since women tend to prefer higher status / older men normally. And the vast majority of families throughout history have not been "power balanced".

I don't know how it's a red flag, it depend of the person in itself if it's a red or green flag, there a lot of guys out there who never look at any women under their age - 5 year but fall for a younger one, and it's not to manipulate her. sure there is some but instantly said it's a red flag are lie.

Strange. I've seen couples with realistic age gaps, like 12-14 years, and there's no issue with power abuse and emotional manipulation.

While I've also seen younger couples with little to no age gaps, and the dysfunctionality is way too evident.

How? I've observed their children. Got to know their stories (under oath). (I'm a licensed lawyer and teacher.)

Maybe the tendency to manipulate doesn't rely on age, but on how a person was raised and what he/she values?
