I really didn't expect that Phil Collins was in a rock band when I first heard his Tarzan soundtrack.

I really didn't expect that Phil Collins was in a rock band when I first heard his Tarzan soundtrack.

He was in Genesis with Peter Gabriel, when both Genesis and Peter Gabriel were showing hints of brilliance but then clashing with each other right on the cusp... Both were far better after they separated (and Collins took over the lead position) apart than they were together IMO.
Though I do like Gabriel's explanation of why he left the band: "It was creative differences. I wanted to be creative, they wanted to be different."
