I’ve been cross-posting my current story to Fictionmania and some other TG transformation sites. I’ve decided to pull the story from FM. I don’t know what’s going on but it’s like the reviewers there are reading a different story.

I think about this story morning and night, I desperately care about its characters and painstakingly plan, write and edit.

And then I get people wondering if that NDA will hold up in a court of law, or wondering if the MC would really take their necklace off before going for a run, or wondering if MC’s wife is secretly transforming him and is about to go on a lesbian fling with her best friend.

Do you not want to comment on the characters, or plot, or emotional arc?

Uh, no thanks.

You do you, but outside of attacks on your personal morality and bots trying to get you into a discord chat, I find myself having difficulty modeling the mindset that is that upset by lots and lots of comments, even if it does sound like most of them are going off into the reeds.

I dunno, you might be more concerned by the review of Scarlet chapter 12 (if you're the same Jessica Drew) that thinks you're dead:

"I have read elsewhere that the author, Jessica Drew, passed away sometime after Chapter 12, which was published in September 2013. I have not been able to find out any further information."

I mean, it's Fictionmania. It's never been the best source of nuanced feedback (though it has at times genuinely surprised) but under the deluge of AI slop of the past year or so, I'd say the chances of getting anything good from the site is rapidly diminishing.

Yes that was quite amusing, I abandoned a story and it was suggested I was dead! 😭

Me and FM go way back and it was the first time I discovered there were people into the things I was into, so I’ll always owe it for that.

But it’s not 2002 anymore and there’s better places to be putting my energy into. There’s hipper places to be (like here!)

I did struggle with “you’re being annoyed at engagement, be thankful”, but in the end the constant barrage from two reviewers in particular would derail anyone heading to the comments to find out what this story was about.

I’d trade it for a much more occasional thoughtful post.

Some people are not happy with their lives and need some outlets for their frustrations... not meant as an insult, but genuinely, this seems like the only logical explanation to me.

Never heard of fictionmania until today.

Why does anyone use that site? It looks dead. The most schizoaids looking thing I've ever seen.
The most ugly, bare-bones and confusing navigation system on there as well, it feels like it was pulled off the deep web.
I feel like I viewed something illegal. :blobrofl:

I'd rather go back to using fictionpress or fanfiction.net. At least those sites are more coherent.

I had to go check it out myself. Wow, I see so many red flags. Right from the start it says, "For Fans of TransGendered Fiction..."
Generally "transgendered," while not necessarily offensive, is considered a weird grammar choice. Like saying someone is "gayed."
I found a few spelling errors on the sign-up pages. For instance it said it would send me an e-mail for "varification."
Whenever you refresh the main page, you get a different picture with an odd caption about transition/transformation. Some of these captions are extremely cringe, and that's not a word I use lightly.
And as you said, the site is extremely bare-bones. It looks like the early websites in the 90s.
So what exactly is it? I'm afraid to check out any of the actual stories. Are they really trans-friendly stories, or are these more like trans fetish stories for cis people?
Am I being overly judgey of a low budget site that's trying its best? I write mostly trans sci-fi. Should even consider posting some of my stories there?
