My story slowly informs the reader of the magical system, sharing the most of the information they need to garner information. And then, for those who prefer to be told and to flesh it out better for myself, rather than figuring it out for themselves, I dump it in a bonus chapter mid-story.
But most importantly, there are elements that are forbidden (i.e. I cannot reveal), no matter what, until the main character knows. The reader has to know they are missing knowledge, but they don't get to know because the tension keeps them wondering and theorizing. But again, they HAVE to know they are missing it, otherwise they will get grumpy, and feel (rightfully so) that you just tossed some shit you expected them to know or care about right at their face.
But, to make the lore dump palatable, I fill it with a whole bunch of interesting tidbits and side tangents that flesh out the world. I write out a lot of fascinating little ways in which the magic system impacts the world at its core and the way it runs.

My power system is built around the introduction of Essence into our universe, which had been unrealized, none of its metaphysical aspects actualized in reality.
Essence is separated into three, but it is only these categories only exist because of humanity's perceptions and the
[redacted]. There is Magic, Miasma, and Eldritch. Eldritch is simply the grab-bag where all of the Essences not comprehensible by humanity are stuck in by scientific standardization, but more importantly, it is not in the
[redacted]. Though, as a side note, humanity kind of fucked up on this. There are other Essences that are well known and well-characterized, they are simply labeled as something different because they were originally believed to be different when the Magical System first arrived.
