How does one find a job?

I have been making jokes about how it's impossible to find a job for so long, I lowkey forgot this isn't how it's supposed to be. The realisation just hit me yesterday while I was having fun, "wait, how am I supposed to find a job?"

Here are some FAQs for things people are likely to respond with to this question,

Job sites like Indeed are like dating sites in the sense they do not work. I am happy for you if you were able to find your match on a dating site or a job site; but I refuse to believe that shit works. People there are actually, like, the most entitled population ever.

Applying through the company's website, is a trap. Your application will be thrown in a big pile of other applications, never looked at. When jobs actually do open, they are gonna be looking at fresh applicants instead of the guy who applied an year ago. And now you can't apply again since the website prohibits multiple applications.

Lots of people recommend getting an apprenticeship. But I have seen that even for the most basic jobs to just any odd job; you cannot get in without family connections. I haven't taken a survey, but in my limited experience I haven't even ever met a cashier that didn't get in through family connections.

By getting fired on the previous one! MUHAHAHAHA

On the serious notes: In my experience, try informal sectors that doesnt require diploma and accept daily freelance. Like film crews/event organizer crews. Those sectors favor passion by progress and hardworks, not by heritages. You can start building good connection and career over there. Although there will be severe sleep deficiency the whole time tho

LinkedIn? Works? ...I think?

Linkedln is a psyop. For your own mental health do not ever believe anything about that site. Forget it exists. If your friends start saying anything positive about that site bid them farewell because they are lost now to the corporate hivemind.

Classic "just hand out around there and hope you get called for some work" ?

I wanted to try freelancing. Got some new confidence ever since I paid an artist a lot for a very very bad portrait of mine. But setup for that is so overwhelming.

That largely depends on where you even live. Because normal people apply via job sites and official company sites. You check what company is looking to hire, you apply, end of story.
It reads as if you hadn't even tried any of that. If you have no job, why not send around your application like it's 2 for 1? In the end, all you can do is go through the process. Otherwise, nothing is ever going to happen.

Imo, I got my job three months after I graduated (thank you, hold your applause, it is a shit job that I held for more than a decade and I now am stuck in a low pay job)

The trick is relentless spamming of application forms and try to have all the key words like "team player", "highly motivated" and "willing to be exploited and suck dihh for free".

Seriously, it is a simple understanding that the job market is whacked and I am tired to hear from old coots that "hur, the young-uns are cunts for wanting more money~"

Yes you dead man walking, I want more money.

I have sent like 200 applications till now actually. That's how I know job sites don't work and that's how I know most company websites block you from applying to them again and again.

What's even the job you are trying to get? If it's just for the sake of having something, until something better rolls around, is there nothing around you that would take anyone? Seriously, what country do you live in?

It does feel like there is no more any space to write that kind of stuff. With resumes they demand to be just one page long and full of numbers and percentages to make the AI happy. It's very awkward for me to lie about how I improved productivity by 70% at my last internship or something.

Unpaid internship I got through family connections mind you... nepotism can't even get ya cash nowadays...

India...

And I have a degree in computer science.

So like most engineers, the job I am looking for is "willing to do anything for cash"

I mean, I am looking, but you know, I even tried volunteering but got refused cuz they want someone with a degree in social works.

The main thing that even gets applications human interaction is a cover letter. Do you tailor one for each job?
I tried doing that at the start, but I feel like a trend developed very recently where, I guess to counter this practice? They just don't tell me what job I am applying for. They just use made up names and vague terminologies. And even if I try to directly ask what the role is for they tell me that depends on the client and what the company needs. So the best I can do is act like I am just a fan of this company for some reason.

That's seriously weird. I work for an IT firm - not high on the latter, but I work Sevice Desk, which is good money and only rarely stressfull work; I don't do a lot of grunt work, so I'm mostly not even on the phone. I know we are constantly looking for IT specialists of all kind, and no, you don't need connections to get in.
And from what I hear, the question of "where do you come from" seems to be important, because that's a kind of job market I haven't seen yet. Sure, you may have to search until you find something that pays well, I also slaved away in the past, but you can definitely find something.

Yes! You are born to make the AI happy! MUAHAHAHA!

On serious notes: Some of my friends that runs IT firm, actually employed people from India, Pakistan, Iran etc to work remotely. But they find those people from LinkedIn ! MUAHAHAHAHA!

Most companies that even want to give freshly graduates a shot are like, unironically black companies so yeah.

Yesterday I was applying for a company, and this is legit company I assure you; and they asked for a copy of my passport.

And the site mentioned that I am legally not required to give them my passport. I can just give it to them if I want.

But if I click on the button which says I don't want to give my passport, the site crashes.

I'll add that yes, it's annoying as fuck. So, make a building block style of cover letter template. Find a random cover letter online and then have 3-5 sentences for each place you can swap out. In your own words of course. Each sentence highlighting generic phrases and competency for one or two types of positions.

If they are intentionally vague then fight them with AI. Plug it in and see if it can extract specifics with the wording they use.

I just read the "depends on the company" part. Highlighting types of adaptability for getting in and doing work without slowing down, while signaling that you can keep going for future projects, seems like a must.

The reality is that knowing networking is how you get a job. The world still runs on cronyism and nepotism, so being able to wow people with your charisma (something I don't have) while you're at church, the club, a bar, an elevator, etc. matters more than being qualified. I grew up in a military family where I met lots of hardworking people; the charismatic ones who knew how to make connections are worth 6 figures, and the ones who sucked at socializing now barely make ends meet even though military retirement isn't that bad.

Well yeah. People live on this planet with people. Socializing is a must.
