Have you guys ever had a really good idea for a story that you didn't pursue/expand on?

This morning I had an idea for what I believed would be a very interesting story, but it was on a topic that would make me upset. I decided not to risk raising my blood pressure over it and dropped the idea. Pathetic as that sounds, I wonder if any other authors dropped a story idea they felt had potential, and why they did so.

I have a lot, but it's put on the back burner due to being distracted with other stuff that isn't storytelling. It's mostly time management/interest/exhaustion issue for me, not writing or idea issue. That first sergeant isekai you've read few months ago is the example where I simply don't have interest in expanding, despite it having a good foundation.

It's been 10 years of telling myself I'll incorporate all of these leftover ideas at a later time.

Since my school days I have always thought of various plot lines that I would then go and tell my friends about. So yes there is like a book filled with various story ideas. It is only now years later that I finally decided to actually sit down and write one of those stories about a month ago. Hopefully one by one all of them will come to life in some shape or form.

I have an idea about a goat being the Mc, he grew wings, became bipedal, kind of like a devil. But SH already have a story like that, so I didn't pushed through

I have about 20+ docs of stories I've plotted out but never started and ones that I've started and never finished. All of them for one reason or another but I leave then for later if needed.

Xuanhuan, SciFi, LitRPG, and a few other things but it would give the whole thing away. Man that sounds so interesting to write right now.

But its really a question is it interesting, or am I just temporarily bored with my current draft and wanna chase that new book high.

Anyway good luck to all your writings guys!

For me, I really enjoy writing characters with a lot of flaws, whether it’s mental health struggles or emotional baggage. But there have definitely been times when I’ve had an idea I thought could be really compelling, and I ended up dropping it because I didn’t want to risk writing about mental health issues I don’t personally experience or fully understand.

It can feel awkward, or even a bit unjust, to write about struggles that aren’t mine, especially if I don’t have the full picture of what living with them is really like. I don’t want to romanticize or mishandle something that’s very real and painful for others, just for the sake of creating drama or fantasy. So sometimes, it’s better to step back and leave those ideas behind.

A half serious half gag story about a group of people brought to an alien species' version of the amazing race. The humans would be turned into mythical beings and the main cast was supposed to be a fairy, a vampire and an orc. Problem: I have never watched the amazing race.

I've been interested in writing a Dark Fantasy where magic and monsters are present but it's not common nor big in the world, similar to Berserk is depicted in all its anime adaptations(I have deluxe edition vol1 of the manga on hand but putting it off for now to read my backlog). The basic idea I had was a old warrior of era's past getting resurrected (now a skeleton) and he goes on a adventure with the elf who revived him.

I've only lightly outlined it before putting it on cryostatis since I never had a definite ending to work towards, but the idea is he has to have a hidden identity of sorts (normally a cloak or suit or armor?) since seeing a skeleton walk around in broad light would spook the humans. The ending I vaguely had was chasing after another elf who has access to a magic old tome that lets her"isekai" to other dimisions (like our Earth) and probably unleash monster doom on them, so like a journey to Mount doom to get rid of it, but it's definitely something I'd need to outline more to figure out.

I was thinking they couldn't stay in one place for long because they'd start attracting magical anomalies, similar to the protag of Mushishi. I guess the thing is it'd probably turn into episodic because of that so it's tough trying to outline to the ending with that in mind.

I drop stories that had potential all the time. You can ask @RepresentingWrath about all of the story ideas I came up with that never seen the light of day. One of them was very interesting and unique, but instead of writing that one, I started something else.

Yes, I had one good idea, just one and I shared it on my profile. I can't pursue or expand on it because, 1 I am not talented enough. 2 I am not disciplined enough. 3 It won't work as a web novel. I think it fits light novel format more. Anyway, it can't be long enough to thrive on sites like SH or RR.
