I hate both of these. And I will always hate them.
Ah. I also recall this gem.
I forgot about the last one. Poor Will. That was ultra sad. I grew up watching Prince of Bel-Air and liked his movies a lot. The dude got royally fucked by that goblin. I’m not entirely sure she was not the one who shot Tupac either.

The novel I just read had someone performing sniping actions with smoothbore aka non rifled flintlock muskets.

Depending on what is one's definition of "sniping", this is certainly possible.

High-grade hunting shotguns loaded with slugs/sabots can be pretty accurate up to ~100m or so. Which is enough to "snipe" in urban conditions, where any distance beyond 50m is considered long-range.

On open terrain things get more implausible, with engagement distances between 150 to 300m on average, but that's because you can usually spot enemy forces from a greater distance. Still not impossible, but the would-be sniper should eschew any expectations of hitting targets reliably. Meaning it's a valid tactic for psychological effect at least: hearing a bullet plink-ing nearby will make any sensible combatant take cover, as they have no way of knowing what the shooter is armed with. (Unless "rolling a nat20" on identifying the sound report of the weapon or smth, idk.)
