Best of luck to you then. Both my fanfics got nuked so it will be bye-bye to SH until I have my Original up and running.

I understand that pain of having hundreds of chapters lolo
One of your fanfics was still up a day ago, but you literally wrote p_atreon in the middle your story synopsis knowing very well about FF and monetization situation. You could have prevented the deletion.

I don't deny that I was wrong. Never have, really. I know that I exploited the situation and I owe it. Now, I am trying to post my Original Story. Is there supposed to be a delay from when I first post it? You know, for review and stuff?

Yes, there's usually a delay for a day or two at most.

I recently been dealing with someone who has taken my Fan Fic and just been posting it everywhere under a new name while promoting their shitty website to sell PDF's. Most of their accounts have been taken down or the work has been deleted. But still that is fucking annoying.

Sorry but for legal reasons, paypal/patreon/etc is banned in fanfics. Fanfictions are a legal gray zone and if we allowed financial gain of any kind, we would be legally compliant with copyright infringement.

There are detection in place to remove any paypal, patreon, etc... links if your story is a fanfiction.
Can we monetize what we create? 🫪

I wanted to check in here to see if a fanfic (generated by creating a cross-over) would be allowed without any pay links, and in what context it wouldn't be allowed.

All fanfics are allowed as long as they are not monetized.
You can monetize them if you either own the IP used or have a permission from IP owner (written one).

Exception from this is when IP owner officially bans any sort of fan-made content, but that rarely happens as it would destroy their reputation fairly quickly.

That's global, not SH-only thing tho.

I think this clarifies it. I wasnt sure if merely having a donation possibly through regular user profile would count the same (assuming such is not mentioned in the Fanfic)

No, you can have it in your profile and in tipping settings (account settings -> author) the site provides, as those are automatically removed in the fanfiction genre (meaning, the "tip" button is removed).
You will only be in danger when you start trying to game the system by obscuring those links (p@treon, for example). And this is also the reason a lot of FF were taken down in past days.

Funny (or not so funny) how full length fan fic web novels are taken down and magically replaced with full length original web novels in a matter of days.

Indicative of the abuse.

Monetization and sanitization are close cousins. What's needed is a big spring cleaning.

For those of us who have fan fiction to post just for fun, there aren't many choices. I've been just about everywhere, and my travels have brought me here. The readers and authors here are mostly adults (20-something and up), and everyone is nice. Yet even here, there are too many abuses, too many people trying to game the system for financial gain. SH has only just begun to crack down on the monetization, and it won't end well.

Now I've come full circle, and I've begun posting at that little non-profit website that starts with 'A'. The last place, to my knowledge, that prohibits fan fic sanitization, monetization, "donations," stubbing, and all other forms of intellectual property exploitation. But hold on: this is not an endorsement of another website.

I've only been back there for a couple hours, and I've already had stark reminders of the reasons I left the place years ago. (1) They don't allow downloading to be disabled. Great. 5 points for "accessibility," but -100 points for empowering thieves. I've had huge problems with chasing down and DMCA'ing unauthorized reposting (theft) of my work, and I don't want to have to relive it. (2) No standards, whatsoever. Anything goes, pretty much. Great. 5 points for "diversity" and "creative freedom," but -100 points for community standards. (What does that mean? Apply the Mom Test. If you can't recommend your "work" to your mother-- or to your daughters-- then you're writing trash.) It's bad enough competing against the "smut" tag. What hope do writers have of competing against hardcore p@rn, much of which is illegal in most jurisdictions on earth?

I've posted a couple chapters there, just to test the waters, but I can't tell friends and family that I have material there. Let alone tell anyone else.

There truly is nowhere left. Fan fiction for fun, I think, is as dead as poetry.

It must all be destroyed.
