Funny (or not so funny) how full length fan fic web novels are taken down and magically replaced with full length original web novels in a matter of days.

Indicative of the abuse.

Monetization and sanitization are close cousins. What's needed is a big spring cleaning.
ah yes.
stealing goods, a crime.
selling stolen goods? almost as much a crime.
grinding the serial numbers off and selling them on Ebay?
l-e-g-a-l

you're describing grinding the serial numbers off.

It is; finding an original story is a pain in the ass, and staying up-to-date on it is as well. The site was clearly designed with one-shots in mind.
There are no original stories on AO3. One must declare a fandom, in order to post.

Oh, there might be one or two out of a million. One can declare "new fandoms," and be the first. So, let's say original stories are effectively zero. But they're the exception that proves the rule, as no one in their right mind would post genuinely original work there.

Got to hand it to them: at least they are intellectually honest. There are precious few original stories here, either, but we're either duplicitous about it or we wear blinders. That's why the fan fic purge is only beginning.

*sigh* some people really do love pulling things out of their own ass.

People have been posting original stories there since before this site and RR even existed. Lots of the short stories in here were posted there first. Look at this original story posted on AO3 in 2021 and on ScribbleHub in 2023...

And some of the "original works" really are original work. (She speculates, from out of her ass, as she peruses an "original work" that lists for tags every character in Wicked, as well as all of the major cast members of the recent movie adaptation, including Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Eeesh. Scrolling down all the stuff tagged with the "Original Work" fandom, 99/100ths of it is stuff that no one would ever ever, ever show to their English professor. Let alone Mom. So I guess I stand corrected. Maybe there are good reasons to be there. Nice to know that if my "original work" requires the ped@philia tag (yes, AO3 has one), my trash has a home.

Oh well. As filthy as that place is, it's all that's left.
