Do you think it's possible to write a perfect story?

Nope! Everything one person loves will be hated by another. Even if objectively it is good, it will never be "perfect" because that is just how human opinions work.

No, because everyone has different opinions on what good pacing is, what makes for great character development, and what amazing writing even is. Just look up the reviews of any popular story on a site like Goodreads or Storygraph. There'll be people praising beautiful writing and amazing characters, and on the same book, there's people complaining about how the characters were flat and the writing bland. It's impossible to judge.

One of the reasons I decided to start over here is because because a quick dirty survey of writers on the royal road forum came up with about 30% of their active forum posters as believing it was IMPOSSIBLE for them NOT to write perfect stories.

And they were very mad about being asked if they thought they could possibly make a mistake.

I don't want to be around people like that. I prefer people with slightly less aggressive hubris.

Wow, that is a level of arrogance I didn't think could exist in unpaid, online writers. Personally, I don't think it's really possible either, but I was curious what other people thought about it.

Ai-chan will just say this:

Even great works such as Lord of the Rings, Great Expectations, Grave Expectations, Carrie, The Great Gatsby, 100 Years of Solitude, 1984 and Lolita have their share of very outspoken and very passionate critics.

So aiming for perfection is a folly. These authors do not care about perfection. All of them care about one thing and one thing only, and that is to tell a story. If the story delivers what the author wants to tell, it is a success. So aim not for perfection, but for successful delivery.
