Does anyone else find his show good for research? I am looking at his desert episodes now, and already learned so much! And they are genuinely interesting. Yeah, I know that he supported throughout the episode and gets water and the like from his team, but I am still at the edge of my seat. I wonder if he also wrote any survival books. And the episodes are in German, so I learn a lot of new words as well!
Do you have a favorite survival guru for research?

I hope these claims are right because he is an actor, and shouldn't have to be in danger. But the scenes where he goes into quicksand seem real enough, and for that alone he has my respect. Not many would risk their lives to show how to get out of quicksand.

The show is entertaining.. great series. Also godlike meme was born from this so ye. May e some of the info shown is wtig like drinking piss. Etc but it's doesn't take much from the show... Just be vary that certain things are not as black and white as shown... You just need a little bit more research on top of the show... 8.97/10... For me

I usually reference the military wilderness survival guide for the country I am writing about. If I am using a fantasy world, I'll use the ones with the closest terrain and weather conditions.

As for shows? I usually go for the Dual Survival since they use both military and hobbyist survival experts to discern what survival techniques work best in what situations while also testing myths about various survival techniques In real survival experiences. I also like the YouTube series called Back to Basics because despite not being a survival show, it is about a married couple on a sailboat traveling around the world via ocean and surviving off of it.

I utilize personal experience and training. Bear Grylls' show provides ideas but the conditions are both controlled, niche, and rarely what you actually encounter. Very entertaining, though.

My first volume will be in the desert, so I bought a guide by a Navy SEAL. Wanted to find it in German, but no luck. Well, at least I will understand it better. For everything else, I have a dictionary. 900 pages is a bit much, but I think I should do the research with more effort, than simply watching shows.

i might if my world was a little more realistic. but being a fantasy world with completely different physical laws from ours, it makes much more sense to simply know my plants and animals, so i can incorporate that into my works. figure out what signs usually mean danger, and use those to make up new things.
