I get this fairly often. When wearing my glasses, the edges of my vision are different enough from the front that, if I am walking, a trash can, shadow, etc. can massively change in size and shape depending on how far away it is. If you add my often tired mind, they often become something completely different until I look at it.

I did see something peculiar not long before my boyfriend died in 2015, but it was in the center of my vision and laughing at me for a few seconds.
