On-topic: If your parent's words resonate with you, I'd more look at it when making your next novel and think about if it's worth rather than rewriting a current one for G or PG-13. Most people won't buy the censored version, and if kids get really interested in the book, they'll probably go find the non-censored version anyways, so it's a lot of work for very little payoff in any sense.
