In the year 2415, Edgar Shin is just one of a thousand Pioneers - and not a particularly remarkable one at that. Armed with near-unlimited freedom but zero support, Edgar and his childhood friend, an overbearing Magister, set course for the hostile planet Omicron on the cryptic recommendation of Prime Magister Wonderweiss himself.
But Edgar's mission seems doomed from the start. His inexperienced crew doesn't trust him, the very surface of Omicron seethes with danger, and hostile alien tenants stand ready to repel any intruders. As Edgar's chances of survival dwindle, a startling truth remains hidden: he is Wonderweiss' secret weapon, the ace up humanity's sleeve.
Unbeknownst to Edgar or anyone else on Omicron, Prime Magister Wonderweiss has set in motion a gambit to save humanity's empire of High Terraria from itself. In this high-stakes game of interstellar chess, Edgar Shin may prove to be the most crucial piece--the one to glue the rest to come.
