  • GL only is the strongest for peak rank — 43% top-25 rate vs 37% baseline.
  • GL + GB combo has average peak rank but double the engagement (29.9 favs/ch). 44% of all Gender Bender novels are also GL. GB without GL underperforms, below baseline on top 10

  • GL only: great peak rank, average engagement
  • GB only: below-average peak rank, above-average engagement
  • GL+GB: average peak rank, insane engagement

non-conclusive since authors are not tagging their novels with gender properly and im not going through 937 novels to check the protag's gender.

also,

Female leads go from 25% of the platform → 38% of top 10. Male leads stay flat at ~15–17% across all tiers.
59% of novels don't tag protagonist gender at all, and they underperform across the board (7% top 10 vs 9% baseline). Tagging gender at all correlates with better outcomes, and female-tagged especially so.
Thanks. I’m curious whether you have the same analysis for Fanfiction and Harem.

rest of the charts. Futanari is highest tag with favourites/chapter ratio. futanari readers be liking ig
That's really funny, since when I first started posting on SH I actually thought that tag would alienate a lot of potential readers if my story used it. Never would have guessed it's the exact opposite, if anything.

in the site bruv. just search your name
Is there a search function to see like the times my story was trending? Cuz I check the trending list every three days to see if my story makes the list, it's rare when it does and I don't think it's ever made it in the front page for trending, not since my first year of writing, that is.

Thanks! Ah, only once this year was I ranked within the top 25.

I thought you meant that I was trending in the front page top 10. That's what I'm aiming for, well mostly to just grow my audience. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.

Okay, now I'm curious.
Can you perhaps do a rough analysis on what fandoms most fanfiction writers dwell in? That'll be an awesome sight to see the charts

NOTE: even though there are sloppy writers not putting tags on Fandom section because they paid too little attention on it or intentionally leave the Fanfiction genre box unchecked.

The Fandom section themselves are also not standardized. You can be #1 in MHA because you are the only one there who put MHA instead of My Hero Academia or #1 in BNHA because you put BNHA instead of Boku No Hero Academia. All four of them are the same fandom.

I think Tony nuked Fandom from advanced search because it's hard to organize.

gonna be tricky and honestly inconclusive. too small of a sample size. someone can probably do this easily with the site's own tagging system

Just look at wtr-lab. Since a lot of fanfics on SH are just translations of Chinese slop, the correlation is pretty strong. Top ones are most probably going to be Naruto, One Piece, Harry Potter.

You can though? Or am I full retard? I am always full retard, but maybe it's worse than usual.

If I read this correctly, Harem remains the ultimate tag, whether it’s Harem only or Harem+anything. Thanks for sharing.

While fanfic might lose to GL in terms of trending, their Patreon earnings seem to outperform every other genre here on SH, including filthy smut, assuming they don’t cross-post or aren’t quite popular on RR. But that’s based on my sampling, and the sample size isn’t large enough to make a statistically significant claim.

Based on my probably outdated knowledge, you basically can't post smut on RR, so most of smut money comes from all the other sites; WN, SH, and so on.

RR has something like a 20% rule, but really, they enforce it like it's 10%. If the thing has more than 10% smut, you will get shafted.

That’s why smut is a genre I picked to compare with fanfic, because both are kind of banned on Royal Road. Well, RR doesn’t ban fanfic, but it stopped monetization earlier than SH. And by that measure, fanfic still far outperforms pure, filthy smut in terms of Patreon dollars, so SH might be more accurately dubbed a fanfic hub than a smut hub, at least before Tony’s intervention.

I will not rest until SmutHub is known as FutaHub instead. LOL JK
