I usually skip stories that have a side character but no MC on the cover.
The most common offenders are romance and harem.

Like, dude, if your MC is so bland they can't even get on the cover, I want nothing to do with it.

That's fair. What if the most recent arc focuses on the side character and they used to have the MC on the cover?

Let's take Konosuba as an example. Kazuma is in fact on the cover of volume 1. He may be missing from some of the other covers, but he starts out there.

Now let's take Slave Harem in a Labyrinth. MC is missing from volume 1. And it's a pretty bad story too.

Mmm, don't know bout that. Even Smartphone in another world, Deathmarch, and SAO have their MCs on the first volume. And those are mediocre harems at best.
