Harem, but with girl x girls, boy x boys, and girl/boy x boys and girls.

Harems that aren't boy x girls or girl x boys are pretty common here, but especially girl/girl harems, I think?

We have the very niche "Straight Seme" and "Straight Uke", without actually having the "Seme" and "Uke" tags-- surely having some tags to describe fairly popular girl/girl and boy/boy relationships that parallel existing tags isn't an unreasonable ask?

The other option I can see here would be to make the Polygamy and Harem tags more generic, because their descriptions are written as male-only right now, even though the terms are often used more widely, but that'd probably disrupt people's current search patterns.

Easily copy-pastable tags below, in case the idea has legs:

Lesbian Harem
A series involving one central female character, and many other female characters attracted to the central female character.

Gay Harem
A series involving one central male character, and many other male characters attracted to the central male character

Bisexual Harem
A series involving one central character, and many male and female characters attracted to the central character.

All unnecessary.

Stuff like Reverse Harem + Girls' Love genre already covers stuff like Lesbian Harem. And the rest are also covered by existing genres and tags.

So, those won't be added.

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I'll just start using tag combos then.

I guess Harem + Reverse Harem could be bisexual harem.

What about tag redefinition, is that potentially in the cards, or no? Because currently Harem reads "A series involving one male character and many female characters (usually attracted to the male character). A Reverse Harem is when the genders are reversed." This feels wrong to me, but maybe I'm just getting hung up on tag definitions when no one actually cares about them.

Tangent: Is there a tag or combo for less centralized polyamory that I'm just foolishly missing, or not so much?

Usually speaking, Bisexual Protagonist and Harem should be enough, I'd say.

None that I know of. You can try suggesting it... Though I think someone else already did a thread for Polyamory suggestion... Not sure tbh. I might be misremembering.

There might be some issues with the definitions indeed.

If you think any genres should receive a new definition, you can try making a new thread for them and explain the issues/limitations of the current definitions and suggest what would be a better definition that would be more useful.

That said, do be aware that the harem genre doesn't necessary means polygamy, but more like multiple potential love interests (which can end in polygamy or not, both are fine).

Still, I don't see any reason why the genre definition explicitly states multiple female characters, so a thread suggesting a change in definition that just states "multiple characters interested in the MC" or something could work.

Just make sure to prepare a reasonable new definition before making the thread. At the end of the day, definition changes only happen if you convince Tony that it is a good idea, so... Well, the more work you put into making your idea look like a good one, the better your chances of success.

Noted!

That was also me, but I thought I'd mention in case that wasn't going to get added for the same reason of "we already have tags for that", and so I'd know what tags to use if so.

Of course.

Thank you so much for explaining!

That's the problem. I search for reverse harem and want polyandry.

Yeah, but people aren't familiar with the word, so there's a lot that should be there but isn't labeled.
Ah, understandable, but there isn't much you can do about it.

Scribblehub tags are added by authors, after all. If they don't know it, then they don't know it.

If you find any story that you think should have the tag, you can always leave a comment on it suggesting to the author to add the Polyandry tag.

I'd say Harem + Girl's Love and Reverse Harem + Boy's Love make more sense for girl x girl and boy x boy harems, respectively?

Well, particularly with the redefinitions I'm imagining for them, I guess... but it all comes down to what people tag with.

Usually speaking, I think most people pay attention to the protagonist when deciding if it's a harem or reverse harem.

... Though tbh, Reverse Harem in itself is kinda dumb. It shouldn't even exist IMO.

Harem + Female Protagonist should
automatically default to 1 girl + multiple guys;
Harem + Girls' Love should automatically default to 1 girl + multiple girls;
Harem + Female Protagonist + Bisexual Protagonist should automatically default to 1 girl + multiple love interests of varied genders.

I don't see any point in the existence of Reverse Harem tbh... But it's kind of a known trope, so it is used anyways... >.>

Many sites (like MangaDex) don’t have a male protagonist/female protagonist tag, so I guess for those sorts of sites, it just became known as “reverse harem” colloquially within the online community, and made it further unnecessary to implement male/female MC tags.

I guess it’s just a matter of sorting by a particular tag.
