The deity could be any one or anything which might be likely to appear in anyone's novels here on SH. The mortal could also be anyone or anything; any race, any gender, anything except the more deviant personalities and those who would intentionally muck about in the mortal realm too much. The mortal world should be otherwise unaware completely of any of this going on ― the mortal cannot just say he/she/it is the temporary deity or appear as the deity would.
The main objective is not that the deity wants to get away for a while, but wants instead to be amused by what a mortal would think to do in this position. Would the mortal world see more balance or less? more chaos or less? more degen or less?
What the deity gambles is that the mortal can provide some entertainment or even food for thought on these mortal affairs. What the mortal gambles is ... nothing, the mortal has nothing to compare to what the deity can gamble. What the rest of the world would gamble is ... also nothing. They will never know the rest of their fates are in the hands of a fellow mortal being from their world.
Now this also presumes, the mortal involved cannot use these powers or skills or abilities to go peek in some random girls' locker room or focus all their attention on someone who may be a love interest. Said mortal also has to do what said deity would also do (or relatively so, according to what said mortal might understand of said deity). The objective the deity gives this mortal will be to ... be actively involved (from afar) in some issue of mortal concern, and actively do something which will not make it worse, or maybe even will solve the situation.
For all of that, the deity is allowed to give some reward after said period of time is over and done. No maximum or minimum value limit on the reward; but it should at least be in direct relation to the amount of effort given by the mortal (a panel of five fellow deities overseeing and giving final dispensation upon any standing complaint by either deity or mortal).
Opening scene. The deity has just selected the target person or thing to ascend; the button/lever/doohicky/chicken is pushed/pulled/squeezed/choked ― let the hilarity, mirth, or scorn begin-
... the story can be metered out in multiple posts, if necessary; but it should at least define the who/what/where and a main point of adventure for the mortal, and the deity's views on it.
