I started uploading XNPC less than two months ago, and it just hit the 100 follower mark on Royal Road.

Meanwhile, I only have 16 followers here on ScribbleHub. You're not going to let those Royal Road losers embarrass you all like that, are you? Show them who's boss by clicking that link and reading XNPC!

@SirContro how much tact would you say that this post has on a scale of 1-10.

8. He's self-aware that he's shilling, and he's not trying to manipulate you into reading his story by using a completely unrelated topic. This very tongue-in-cheek way of promotion is both unserious, causing people to not jump at the chance to flame his ass, and is also ironically a better way to get people to actually click the link than most shameless shillers on this site, because he mentioned Royal Road was better. A lot of people here hate Royal Road.

The only thing he could have done better is include Royal Road in the title, enticing more smuthubers to engage in their guilty pleasure. Many people see the generic title of '100 followers' and probably ignore the thread for something more exciting, but you mention Royal Road, and SH authors are drawn to it like me to a flame.

Damn! Congratz, I only have 52 and Ive been publishing there since november, and I had under 10 for like 80% of that time!
I think it's pretty much 50% buying an ad, 50% begging for shoutout swaps with everybody on the Rising Stars list, and 50% just having a story in a genre that people on there already like (litrpg) with a spin I haven't seen other stories do (grind for XP or you turn into an NPC).

It was an intricately calculated plan. Unfortunately, I am really bad at math.

You should make a post about how well your ads worked out! I'd love to know!

Not sure how much useful information I can give you. It went up on February 11th. I paid $55 for 280,500 views. I've had 205,193 views so far, 75,307 left to go, and of those views I've had 1,615 clicks. Out of those clicks, 25 people followed the book and 68 put it on their Read Later list. This was the ad I ran:

I'm thinking about running another ad with this. It was originally the "Undertaker behind AJ Styles" meme, but apparently you can't use real people in RR ads so I had chatgpt turn them into two different people.

Cool ad campaign.

Kinda wish it told me more of what you're writing, rn it just feels like all the other ads I've seen around.

Making RR ads is tricky. People respond better to meme ads, and a good meme is one that can be read and understood in just a couple seconds with as little thought as possible. That makes getting more than the most basic information across difficult. Especially when you also have to turn it into a joke somehow.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, take my comment with a grain of salt.

As a reader.
*All the attempted meme ads are really fucking cringy and makes me hate whatever story their posting even more.

Edit : Only when looking from a purely reader perspective [No hate on yours tho since I am actively talking to you]

Edit 2 : Also congrats on the 100 followers!

Okay, but that's just you. Several people on Royal Road have shared their data after running ads multiple times over the years, and it's an undisputable fact that meme ads get more clicks than "serious" ads.

You don't like them. What am I supposed to do with this information? "Well, I guess I'll just ignore the hundreds of thousands of people who like and respond to these meme ads and only make ads that this one single person approves of!"

Yeah. It's a personal opinion, that's why salt is heavily added. 🧂

I ain't trying to be negative :blob_pat_sad:, sorry if offended. Am just curious if the ad numbers can go higher with the right ad style since you've got a more serious novel.

~But if the data says memes. Then memes it is!~

Needs more tact.

But the novel is nice and interesting but can you add the link to the scribble hub one instead of royal-road since you want more SH followers.
(It would be easier to click directly)

How much of that viewership has transitioned to your Patreon, assuming you have one? Any noticeable uptick?

Also, congratulations on the 100 readers.

I only have two active members, one free and one paid. I have no idea if they found the book through my ad or not.

Non-meme ads can perform better but require a lot more effort and need to be high-quality. I don't like the meme ads either, but their big advantage is that they can be super-low quality / low-effort and have it be a part of "the joke", so they still end up working okay. It's the safe choice

Edit: congrats on the 100, I'll give ur story a peek~
