But why stop at a generic term with beast? Why not create the creatures and name them?
If its part of the world why leave them in a basic state of just animals? Bringing them to life makes it feel more realistic and easier to imagine and connect to the storie.

Why not use titles in a roman legion hierarchy?

You know, like Legatus for powerful beasts on the level of rulers. Centurion for boss beasts. Legion for beasts that swarm. Praetor for powerful beasts that you see near rulers. Aquilifier for beasts that primarily use magic.

Stuff like that.
