[Pointless Rant] The Agony of Reading (Sometimes)

Dude, if you can't see how aggressive and confrontational your comments are no wonder your "frendly advice" isn't wanted. And yes, I read your whole rant, in it's entirety. But since you seem unable to agree to disagree without anger, maybe ignoring would be best. Have a nice day.

[Pointless Rant] The Agony of Reading (Sometimes)

Some people are good at things, some people aren't. Even if you think it was a lack of effort. If you thought informing her of what you saw as shortcomings was going to improve her writing, then I guess you were doing good. But if you were just pointing out how horrible she is, then you were...

[Pointless Rant] The Agony of Reading (Sometimes)

What you described her as was worse than a hack, I believe. So what were you hoping to accomplish? It's not the length of your comments. It's the intent behind them. You then complained about her inability to take criticism... I think that's a skill we all can learn.

[Pointless Rant] The Agony of Reading (Sometimes)

Constructive criticism is one thing. A multi thousand word angry rant is something else. The author in your example is obviously so far from competent that no amount of constructive criticism is going to be helpful. So what were you actually doing? Telling somebody they're fat and ugly then...

Is there a way to have a 2nd post not merge into 1st?

Thanks. 1st time I actually used quotes instead of "copy/paste". And it worked.

Okay, there's going to be a number of "early readers" here.

Sad  Lord of the Rings was the first classic book I disrespected by skipping pages. I had the big all-in-one hardcover with all the fold out maps and stuff. (I really wish I knew where that was now.) But anyway, someplace, I think in Return of the King, the battle before Aragon regained...

Is there a way to have a 2nd post not merge into 1st?

The thing is, I posted to the thread then also wanted to respond to another post without it getting lost in the original comment. No biggie, just wondering.

Is there a way to have a 2nd post not merge into 1st?

    Yep... that's the question.

Okay, there's going to be a number of "early readers" here.

No prodigy here. I remember reading some western story in grade school. It was the first book to light up my imagination. But it wasn’t until my early teens, I was sick in bed with the flu or something and my mom bought me The Shining paperback, I read that sucker in one night. Looking back...

As a reader, what is your attention span tolerance for the minimum and maximum number of sentences in a paragraph?

"As a reader, what is your attention span tolerance for the minimum and maximum number of sentences in a paragraph?" And then all the formatting... The question was so long I kinda lost interest in the first part by the time I finished reading it. Does that help? *Asking for opinion or...

As a reader, what is your attention span tolerance for the minimum and maximum number of sentences in a paragraph?

"As a reader, what is your attention span tolerance for the minimum and maximum..." As a reader?.. Why do I feel like I might be the only reader to post to this thread? Isn't there "A place for Authors to Bicker" area?

Is it bad to Poll my readers on this sorta stuff?

Do authors pay attention to comments for stories posted long ago. Or is commenting that I liked "whatever" 2 years after it's release just taking to myself?

Is it bad to Poll my readers on this sorta stuff?

I think polls are a great way to interact with readers who are hesitant to leave comments. As a reader, being the 16th to say TFTC seems pointless. But expressing myself in a easy multiple choice poll, I'm in.

y'all I need help im losing motivation for my book

The request was "help im losing motivation". I decided to help the person instead of being critical of the work and adding to the doubts. There's times when being supportive is more important than a harsh technical dissection, I felt this was one. From the superior tone of your posts, it's...

y'all I need help im losing motivation for my book

Being a cis-het male, BL isn't really my thing. But I read the 1st chapter and your writing is fine. I felt the infatuation was kinda cute actually. IMO as long as you enjoy writing, keep going, you'll have readers.

Do authors want readers to point out spelling/typos in comments?

Nope meaningless. No thought or effort put into my user name at all. The one on RR stinks too.

Do authors want readers to point out spelling/typos in comments?

Time4T understands, Time4T will remember you, Time4T wishes he didn't pick his user name from a Vanity license plate.

Do authors want readers to point out spelling/typos in comments?

When I started this thread I thought my answer was "Yes, I'm helping". By the end it was "No, better to not risk effecting the authors confidence". So now I'm mostly "No" unless I'm 100% sure I'm doing more good than harm.
