    General Toe Stubbing Annual Survey

They grow back. I do a lot of hiking. And yeah I have pretty good boots. But I'm somewhat reckless.

    General Toe Stubbing Annual Survey

Don't know how many toenails I stubbed. I lost two. I probably stubbed eleven, if I had to guess.

What's your opinion on giving constructive feedback for folks who do generate AI slop?

The ChatGPT take on em-dashes versus semicolons had me rolling on the floor, so thanks to whoever posted that garbage. What a bunch of digital spew. Don't let that crap teach you how to write! Run screaming! LOL Anyhoo, lots of readers don't care that a story is LLM generated. They just...

What's your opinion on giving constructive feedback for folks who do generate AI slop?

Alright, well there are different kinds of feedback. So sure. I'm thinking in terms of critique, but that's not the only purpose for a comment and you make a good point L1aei. For instance, if you're really into a book for the action or the "hot parts" or whatever, and you want more of the...

What's your opinion on giving constructive feedback for folks who do generate AI slop?

I don't understand. What's the point of giving feedback to an AI generated book? The point of feedback is to critique and encourage the human author. Right? If the author is an LLM, skip the feedback. Why would I give feedback to an LLM?

It's mostly fan fiction. What it is and what it's called often differ.

    PAY ARTISTS !!

You lost me again. We're trying to commission this ethical and saintly artist to give him the work and thereby give Stable Diffusion less. Starve the Great Satan (AI) by giving more work to humans. Win-win for this artist. And if he lines up a few successful commercial commissions, meets his...

    PAY ARTISTS !!

You kind of lost me here, with the way you've politicized AI usage. At risk of getting into a political debate (not my intent), fascist political systems have always germinated from left wing social disestablishment movements. Not sure how that historical fact's been subverted by the...

    PAY ARTISTS !!

Also, TinaMigario's post is brilliant and probably at least somewhat true, because that has happened to many of us in the corporate world, struggling to engage "genius" savants who live in alleys. OtherSlater really ought to stop skimming and read her post. If he ever wakes up.

    PAY ARTISTS !!

OP, people still pay for art. If you're young enough, matriculate at a fine arts college and make real connections in the real world. If you've already done that, get commissioned in a gallery. Or start a career as a stage art director. Or in the marketing department of a large corporation...

    PAY ARTISTS !!

My profile bio says "Only words." No more, no less. Words are all I'm here for. No more, no less. I don't care about covers. My book only has a cover because the local demographic won't skim the synopsis without one. And it's not working. I suppose my cover needs a lot more skin...

    How to make friends?

You say you're into mountain climbing. If you're good at it, volunteer for a mountain rescue team. Or if you're just okay at it, join an organization that maintains trails. To make real friends you need to do real things with real people in real life. Or you could feed the gulls, like Kya in...

    Would you click on this?

I have an image link in my signature but I can't imagine anyone legit clicking on it. It's only there because someone suggested it. No one should click on any image link tbh

What do you prefer personally? 1st POV or 3RD POV.

As a reader I dread first person, because it is typically badly done. I'll occasionally kick the tires and rapidly conclude, "Yep. Blech." I can think of a few good novels written in first person. Moby Dick. The Great Gatsby. Cat's Cradle. But I can't think of a single one written in this...

    My Solution to Shoehorning

Oh, they take things in different directions. In the outline. My comment presumes that one doesn't write the first word without knowing the last. :D This of course presumes that a primary objective for the novel writing process is to finish the novel. I realize that the Patreon grind...

    My Solution to Shoehorning

OP, you're describing outlining, although scattershot and often ex post facto. And yes, the result all too often is a big hot mess. Outlining is where the author must start. The objective is to surprise the reader. The author should never be surprised.

As a reader, which narrative do you prefer in conveying a character's emotions?

The effectiveness of the examples given depends upon the audience. The first example I suppose would work best with children, who have to be told that a particular situation calls for fear. Or happiness. Or what-have-you. "Jane ran up the hill. Jane was tired. Jane wanted a nappy. Dick ran...

What are your thoughts on creators advertising their Patreon

This is starting to sound like the rationalizations we hear in defense of shoplifters. That it's "victimless," because the pilfered store merchandise is insured. Fan fiction causes more damage than people realize. Publishers invest millions in their intellectual property, to build their fan...

What are your thoughts on creators advertising their Patreon

Sure, sure. Agreed. We'll never know how much Stephenie Meyer made on Fifty Shades. But we're not talking about legitimate business agreements. We're talking about this place. And places like it. No one in places like this does that. No one.
