That is amazing! I didn't know there was a name for that cold / earthy / clean smell after rain. For me, I overuse my two favourite m-words: myriad and meander.

As much as possible, I try to link word choice to my characters and their backgrounds — not just in dialogue, but also in description. My own vocabulary tends towards fancy / posh, so I always try to cut out 'university' words for characters that wouldn't think or talk like that.
