Ah, I've been here some time, but I don't usually speak up unless I think I can help someone or contribute to the conversation... But thank you! \o/

Recommendations Novels in which mc is reincarnated inside a novel

Mine is a story where a webnovel writer who churned out tons of schlock dies and gets transmigrated into the world of a novel he wrote early in his career, which he barely remembers (mind the tags): https://www.scribblehub.com/series/60217/the-jade-veterinarian/

Fun little thing to learn about writers/artists! (Enter yourself or someone you enjoy)

Oh! Thank you @Queenfisher for tagging me. I don't really know if other writers read the forums (who haven't already been tagged?) so if you feel like joining in, please do so. I have been writing fannish content since 1997 or so, usually (but not always) BL. I have an advanced degree in a...

How many chapters do you expect per week for ongoing novel?

I was referring to your personal preference, which you stated was not to get involved with stories that are not completed. Your recognition of pitfalls and problems that an author faces while writing didn't result in you changing your opinion or reading practices, which is why I left it at 'fair...

How many chapters do you expect per week for ongoing novel?

I would counter with the argument that many creative people don't like shouting into the abyss and hearing nothing back, so stories are more likely to get dropped when no one engages the author. But fair enough.

How many chapters do you expect per week for ongoing novel?

What if the author is consistent about updating (or about communicating when/why there will be no update)? Does communication or consistency matter?

Thoughts on Multiple Perspectives In A Story?

Being able to adequately convey story plot through the lens of one character is why having a Main Character is such a common way to write fiction. Whether it is written in first person or third-person-limited, focusing on one character allows the reader to form deep connections with the MC. You...

Tapas - Is it worth it?

I considered Tapas before uploading here, but the character limit and the content restrictions are both a big drawback for me. I write stories for adults, with adult themes including sex and violence. Posting on Tapas would have required gutting a lot of the story.

Recommendations Chinese Fantasy Novels Without Nationalism

If you can accept a multitude of sins (Boys Love, Cultivation, Xianxia, Transmigration), then my novel might be what you're looking for. https://www.scribblehub.com/series/60217/the-jade-veterinarian/

    Sex, and Smut in Stories

If there's a warning that I don't want to attach so that I don't spoil, I put it in-line in the chapter so that they won't have a nasty shock. Other than that, people who can't read the tags are probably having a bad time in a lot of places.

How Many Words Do You Guys Average Per Chapter

I write to 3k and if it goes over that to get to a good stopping point, that's fine. I can get to 3k in like 7 hours of distracted writing, but I tend to like letting my writing sit for a while before I go back and edit. Fresher eyes means fewer mistakes, especially since I have a large...

    Sex, and Smut in Stories

So this is a problem that romance authors (and to a lesser extent only in terms of numbers, erotica authors) have been dealing with for quite some time, and I'm sorry you've come up against it. But stories about emotions and relationships are for women. I don't mean this in a "men can't have...

[Disc] How do you, as a reader, feel when a novel you like signs on as premium exclusive on webnovel?

Time-locking things seems silly; people will just wait so they don't have to pay, because the product being purchased on patreon is not the actual chapter or piece. It's buying satisfaction as early as possible. There's entire threads about reading right away or waiting to binge something until...

[Disc] How do you, as a reader, feel when a novel you like signs on as premium exclusive on webnovel?

I see a lot of people talking about support on patreon/ko-fi/etc, but in my experience as an author, asking readers to pay based on the honor system doesn't actually...work? I have said that if someone feels my work should be rewarded, they can send me a ko-fi or a tip or whatever. After I had...

    Chinese Character Names?

I develop family names first and went for a simple approach of naming families after geographic features. Then I decided given names as far as 'wish fulfillment' on the part of parents for their children, and (in my world), courtesy names based on the perception the young adult has of themself...

    Fantasy Romance

My novel is BL/isekai/cultivation/xianxia, but I spend a lot of time on worldbuilding and character/relationship development. It's a slow burn romance with some action and some slice-of-life. https://www.scribblehub.com/series/60217/the-jade-veterinarian/

The weirdest thing you had to google

googling dead bodies or sex stuff is just your normal run-of-the-mill stuff for authors. Gimme your weird stuff like 16th century French lace patterns or the meanings of different poses of angels in graveyards or standard prices for superheavy mining equipment. I googled how to generate...

Recommendations Fantasy BL that isn't Cultivation or World Hopping/System

If you just don't like the heroic Chinese fantasy approach, then you can stop reading here. But the nature of your problem with BL cultivation novels is that the tropes don't hit right, then my novel might work for you. I've gotten some positive feedback on worldbuilding and characterization, so...

Any insecurities you authors have about your novels?

I am an older writer, so I don't have many of the issues that other (younger/less-experienced?) writers have. I am also not a "pantser" or gardener, whichever way you want to describe people who just jump into a plot. I am an "architect"-type writer. I begin with building the world with a...
