Why are writers fighting the future AI?

Fair enough. Folks, I was just thinking. And now I'm thinking it out loud. I would hate to miss out on the works of those highly creative people with brilliant ideas whose first language is not English and who would never even contemplate to publish in English unless they have editorial...

    Drive-by and low-effort comments

Thanks for your response. I was thinking (rare moments...). If I report them isn't it exactly the reaction why they are doing it? So, I lean towards just ignoring them.

Why are writers fighting the future AI?

I think where AI is invaluable is formatting the text to industry standards. If you engage and pay a professional editor before submitting your work to a literary agent or directly to a press you will look at a hefty bill depending the level of editing. An example. Something AI can easily do...

    Drive-by and low-effort comments

Dear Fellow Writers, Any experience with drive-by and low-effort commenters who live short, blunt comments such as the stock phrase "Fully AI-created" and disappear (disabled profile)? Any insight into this?

Do you ever ‘cast’ your characters?

Say no more... You're a Princess in disguise... I won't blow your cover, your Highness...

Do you ever ‘cast’ your characters?

And did you grow up to be a princess?

Do you ever ‘cast’ your characters?

Oh, you never know what might happen... Thanks for your response.

Do you ever ‘cast’ your characters?

I laughed so loud that my dog sent me a frowning look... Thanks for the response. So basically the same as myself.

Do you ever ‘cast’ your characters?

Quick question for fellow writers: do you mentally cast actors for your characters? You know, just in case your story is singled out by one of the Hollywood giants, or perhaps BBC, or Netflix, or whatever... And if so, which way round do you do it. I mean actor first, or character first? I...

Writing, kindness, and new chapters that surprised me

English humour? It's an acquired taste. Not everyone's cup of tea. I've once read somewhere that English humour is saying the opposite of what you mean, in a tone that suggests you barely care either way. You either live in England, or watch a lot of British sitcoms, or read stuff, or all of...

Writing, kindness, and new chapters that surprised me

Charles, You have put it aptly: "listening" to the characters. I do that a lot. While I have in my head where I'm going with the story my characters often have their own life. It's probably my conscious and subconscious are in constant battle for domination. Haha

    Do you use em dash?

I think em dash is an essential tool for prose. I use it to create pause, add emphasis, or , I don't know, slip in a thought. I did notice that editing softwares overuse em-dash. For that matter, so does AI. But em-dash is still a good tool. Some authors use them instinctively or because...

Writing, kindness, and new chapters that surprised me

Hi Bayleyroskstar, Your thoughtful words mean a lot. One of the things I’ve always believed is that stories carry a responsibility, when they touch cultures that aren’t our own. The hardest part of writing The Shape of Kindness was making sure I honoured Gurung culture with as much accuracy...

    Appetite for contemporary fiction?

Eldoria, I'm ever so grateful for your words. You hit the nail by the head. And I did ask myself the question whether I should chase popularity on SH. Of course I did. Then I realised that my goal was not fame or glory but rather being heard however small the audience might be. I’m glad...

Writing, kindness, and new chapters that surprised me

Hi Everyone, I hope you’re all having a gentle day. I’ve recently posted new chapters of The Shape of Kindness, and I wanted to leave a small note here. Partly to share the update, partly because these chapter meant more to me than I expected. I’m not naturally gifted at self‑promotion...

    Suicide in Fiction

I agree wholeheartedly. It's context, context and context. If you need dark scenes, you need them.

    Appetite for contemporary fiction?

Thank you ever so much for responding. This is exactly the kind of reassurance I need that I have not miscalculated posting my novel on SH.

    Appetite for contemporary fiction?

Wow! Thanks for your perspective. A lot to take in but it will certainly help me understand how things work here. Oh, thank you. This is very reassuring. My take on being here is exactly the same as yours. And I not for a moment confuse appetite with popularity. My question might have been...
