Authors, what do you prefer digital writing (typing) or writing on paper (pen)?

No, if physical writing was my only choice, I would never write. Pen and paper is physically painful for me, and always has been. Being gifted an electronic typewriter when I was in middle school was a life changer.

What moment in the story made you cry and is unforgettable?

Of course I draw a blank when trying to recall a specific moment. But I know what types of scenes tend to make me tear up the most. The painfully sweet ones. Those moments of tender joy that sharply contrast something else previous in a person's life. I recall Beware of Chicken having...

Question for Writers with Ongoing Stories

The internal pacing of a chapter is based on the current events of a chapter, rather than the overall pacing of the story. If one were to look at a pattern reflecting how fast each chapter was, one would find that the fast paced chapters tend to be clustered together, as part of an ebb and flow...

    'Plan to read' implications

For me, it's #1, the same as with physical books. I really like to read, but I can only keep up with so much at a time.

    "True names" in Fantasy

That's a familiar line. :D “My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk."

Authors, do you have any favorite characters besides the MC?

It's a convention that evolved around romance stories, so there is no in-convention answer for your scenario. That does mean you are free to make up your own if you want. :) But it really only matters in stories with multiple MCs.

Need help with multiple MC story

You probably picked up on this as we posted across each other, but to be sure: yes, during most of the story, the three MCs are together, or at least close proximity, and are always in contact with each other. They form a single narrative from multiple PoVs. Oh, and no explicit scenes, though...

Authors, do you have any favorite characters besides the MC?

Male Main Character, and thus there is also the FMC, Female Main Character. Romance stories tend to have 2 recognizable MCs, one of each gender, thus the origin of the terms. And mine has 3: one MMC, and two FMCs.

As an author, do you promote your culture through fiction?

No, I can not describe my story as promoting American culture. There are certainly some ideals that were inspired in part by some of the best of American ideals, such as a strong lean toward individual freedom and encouraging people to find their own path in life, but there are many other...

Need help with multiple MC story

So, I have 3 MCs, write in third person, and the PoV rotates between them. Once I got better, a single chapter only has a single PoV, but I didn't always know how to complete a scene at first using a single PoV. The characters all have distinct voices, and I occasionally use a secondary...

Authors, do you have any favorite characters besides the MC?

Absolutely. For example, later on, a teenage orphan girl named Fuyuko gets introduced who is a delight to write the occasional PoV chapter of. Which relates to an entire second arc of the story that had not been planned when I introduced her, but saw the potential for once I built on her...

Writing As an author, what type of ending maker are you based on?

So I chose "don't think about the ending", but that's not entirely accurate. While I did not start knowing my ending, once I found my antagonist in the back story, I had a shadow of an idea, and as the series progressed, the idea took on a more solid form, with the occasional mental edit. There...

So i am curious.... when making your stories.....

Racism is non existent. Note: race would mean superficial differences inside a species, such as skin color amongst humans. Elves are not a race, they are a species. speciesism is pretty rare too. Somewhat less rare is pure-blood bigotry, i.e. looking down at half-elves or such, but not...

    Authors, do we need discord?

I have one mostly because I already had one. At one point, I had tested out becoming a streamer. Turns out, not for me, I am not good at being 'on' with a public, energetic vibe for 4-6 hours at a time, multiple times a week. But Discord was definitely part of that. However, in that time, it...

Authors, if you make an original story do you ever think about making another one?

I have so many ideas that I have a file specifically for keeping track of them. But I am not going to start writing them until I finish this one. And I'm sort of wrapping up my original, except one of the spin offs I had in mind works better as an integrated 'part 2', given the ways it ties...

What's the most difficult thing about writing story content?

I saved a reply that I wrote a while ago, and here's the relevant section that I think is a decent answer to this sort of question: To answer the original question: Actually remembering to use all the ideas that I have taken notes on. I mean, I am writing a dungeon core story where one of the...

Writing What is the lore in your fiction?

There are endless paths to power, for one's power is shaped by one's will and the actions one takes, by how you strive and how you contest your will and spirit against the world and against the will and spirit of others. A wizard enhances their mind and knowledge to let them cast spells. A...

What do you expect from the final battle at the climax of the arc?

It depends on the needs of the story and the characters. In mine, the climax of the battle happened before the villain's death by about a chapter's worth of content. This then led to a hunt that eventually gives us the kill. Due to events, the villain was in the process of being killed by one...
