Not there yet, but my story involves a kitsune, which are known for illusion, shapeshifting, and appearing as either gender. The kitsune has also told me they will be using both genders when they reach the point of shapeshifting or using illusions to appear human.

I have the same issue. I write for myself, but seeing others enjoy my story makes me feel much better, so I obsessively check in hopes of seeing someone interested enough in my story to put in the time to comment on it.
