That is a very common misconception. Excessive self-promotion may be seen as spamming, or just come off as annoying, but "casual" self-promotion, or the occasional request for feedback (or offers of review exchanges) are if not encouraged, at least welcomed.

Do you have any graphics software? Might be worth doing a Google Image or Pinterest search for cats like the one you have in mind, and then converting to a sketch via a filter so you can make some tweaks to it and make it "your own"
