Sequel to fanfic thread. All fanfics are trash.

The ones by Fraser, that are sequels to "Tom Brown's School Days" (a kind of bland novel itself)?

Sequel to fanfic thread. All fanfics are trash.

Heck, "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" by Allen Dean Foster was a "fanfic" written as a sequel to Star Wars that would have made more sense than the sequels Lucas put together... Probably not been as good a movie as Empire Strikes Back, but would have made more logical sense.

    How To Genderbend Protagonists

This was pretty much my logic in "Strange Awakening" - that the personality will adjust to the body with time.

    Odd thought

After starting on four books between three sites where I kept thinking "This would be great if they had a decent editor; it's 'good enough' but could be better" I found myself wondering if maybe I should offer my services AS an editor... Not sure what kind of rates would be reasonable or if...

Tips and Techniques You Do to Save Your Works

Yep. Had several people try to talk me into it. It will be one of the first things I purchase if I ever start making money writing.

Tips and Techniques You Do to Save Your Works

I was worried as I use GoogleDocs for anything in progress (then pull it into Libre Office or Open Office to format and do stuff GDocs doesn't handle well). Then I noticed that the article is from 2017, and remembered people on another group panicking over it back then... I THINK this issue was...

Thoughts on the claim that Google docs is deleteing documents that go against their TOS?

Ugh. Now I have to copy my stuff to local drives just in case... Was nice being able to write on my phone and edit on my laptop while it lasted... Edit: Oh wait - article is from 2017. Old news since resolved AFAICT. No need to panic but do need to be careful, just in case.

    Shatterborn?

It's a little "clunky" sounding but gets the job done. I'd say go for it. Sounds like a decent title at least.

A lot of readers stopping at chapter one...

Or as is often my case when reading, they decide: "This might be interesting, but I don't have the time for it now so will save it, move on, and maybe eventually come back to it." (or, less often but still happens: "If this were better edited, I would not be able to stop but ... it really needs...

A lot of readers stopping at chapter one...

Both... I have a lot of stories I opened the first chapter on but never read, just marked to look at later. I doubt I'm alone in this. Also you (and, I suspect *I*) may have a problem "hooking" people in that first chapter - either it just does not grab them, or they think "OH, just another...

    Is dual wielding overrated?

Oh you can - or you can use one shield to attack and one to defend. It gets complicated.

Is my synopsis grabbing attention? I need your thoughts

Hmm - not too clear on the next part - seems to meander a bit. Zelo is a norm who injects himself with a mysterious substance, right? Does the substance kill him or send him somewhere else? Both? Or does it just transform him? And does he know the substance is called Aster (then it should be...

    Is dual wielding overrated?

They also have rules for that but if you use the spike then you are just doing "sword and board" (except on "Perfect" and "Near Perfect" defense) and not Two Shield style... :D

    Is dual wielding overrated?

Believe it or not, the current edition of the HackMaster roleplaying game has rules for this. It's pretty useless unless you know your enemies are not strong enough to break a shield and you are more worried about blocking attacks than doing damage though.

Which type of monster (the classic fantasy monsters) do you believe is the best represtentation for the deadly sin of pride?

I could see a dragon, but that might fit gluttony or greed better. Tolkien's elves seemed to show a lot of pride and that seems to filter out to most modern takes, so they would get my first vote. A sphinx would also be a great contender - the whole "Riddle of the Sphinx" story suggests pride...

    Mature Written Stories

If I actually think about it, I might put a warning on a chapter... but part of the reason why I put a warning on a STORY is because I know I might forget about a specific chapter (as they're usually written well in advance) having an "adult scene."

    How To Genderbend Protagonists

I think this is the key difference between a "good" genderbend and a "bad" one - a good one focuses first on how this complicates/changes the character's life, and second on how relationships work in this new world. A bad one focuses on "I now have different bits. Lets play with it/them...

    Ever Gotten Reached Out?

I've had two companies reach out and try to hire me to be the person sending these out. It's a double scam - they either get the "new employee" to buy a bunch of stuff from a pet vendor at a "discount" or they find a rube who already has everything, and that person gets lists of people to...

    Is dual wielding overrated?

Unless the dual wielder is part of a martial tradition that trains with two weapons (Florentine Fencing, some forms of Wu Shu/Kung Fu, Escrima), dual wielding is nothing but a threat display. Traditions that use two weapons typically have one used for blocking/parrying the other used for attack...

I used to think that making short chapters would be easier

In the novel Howling Mad, Peter David wrote a single chapter that was one sentence: "It seemed the polite thing to do."
