What I meant was a harem essentially made out of mistresses who do nothing except incessantly try to attract the MC's attention from the main girl. It might make sense if they had a seductive personality, but it doesn't make sense to me when the harem is made of a large variety of personalities...

Personally, I like number 1, just because the disconnect between a protagonist with complacent goals and the people around them makes me laugh. But if you're planning to have reverse harem or a love hexagon, you might want to go with the second one to give a teaser.
