What did you learn during your writing researches ?

For an unpublished story (still on chapter 3 - won't put something up until I have at least five) I had to look up a lot about Ancient Egyptian clothing and lifestyle bits. For another unpublished one, the MC is sometimes an expert on cars (tough to explain) so I keep having to do some research...

The in-between Writing & Writing Block

For me it's called "Real Life Getting in the Way of Writing"

What is the Hardest Genre to Write?

This likely varies from author to author. I have some trouble with straight-up mysteries and standard romance stories, for example, and honestly am not sure whether I handle action well or not, but won a (very minor) award for a horror story once, and a humor piece got at least one class at my...

    Cowboy TipTop Idea?

That's some udderly ridiculous bovine intervention right there.... And is there any cow tipping in this tip-top cow?

    Suspension of disbelief: Plothole edition

So far, in my fiction, the only plot twist I've had a reader suggest had already been planned about a month earlier... Now, in Role Playing Games, twice now I've had players suggest things that made more sense than what I had planned and their guesses became canon...

Is it okay to tell readers when so and so is about to start after such and such chapter

Wait - you are calling probably the best movie Will Farrel was ever in a "piece of crap"? Fair.

    Story dropped off trending?

I had one story hit 13 on Trending, or so I was informed. When I checked it was in the 20s. That was less than an hour later. As far as I know (stopped checking after two weeks), nothing I've written has cracked the top 200 since.

Looking for Honest Reviews for My Fantasy Novel!

Or LESS AI generated stuff, using it as a tool rather than as a crutch, maybe?

Seeking fellow writers to brainstorm and exchange ideas on MMORPG-themed stories!

The only one I've got has a virtual world split into regions. The MC is essentially isekai'ed into the Wild West region but there are science fiction and fantasy regions as well. Player Character Avatars are called "Travelers" and all follow some generic rules and some setting-specific ones.

Looking for Honest Reviews for My Fantasy Novel!

The synopsis feels as if it was written by an AI.

To the Artists out there who write.

Back in the 90s, one of the heads at Image Comics, I don't remember which one it was, coined the term "Wartists" to describe Writers who are also Artists.

Should mana pool/ aura pool be included into the stamina pool?

For me, that is the definition of a "style choice" though - the writer's style and vision for the magic system define how they present it.

Should mana pool/ aura pool be included into the stamina pool?

I vaguely recall a story or game somewhere that gave characters an "energy pool" that could be used to power moves, special abilities, or to replace lost health. Essentially everything was a subset of, I think that one called it Chi. I think the only rule in MHA is the "rule of cool" - if it...

Should mana pool/ aura pool be included into the stamina pool?

It is a style choice, nothing more nothing less. Can be the same, can be separate, can be different tracks for different types.

Death Isekai - Ideas on how to kill the MC?

...and then you have the lead in Dead Like Me, sometimes called "Toilet Seat Girl" because she was killed by a toilet seat from, IIRC, Skylab after it broke up.

Ideas you once thought were original but later found out were generic

There was a short story - I think by Dennis Etchison - where the narrator, a writer, was being stalked by someone. When the stalker finally caught up to the MC, he said the MC had been "stealing his idea particles" and went on to say that every story he'd ever written, the MC had published at...

    Lacstarb

I never had a name for it until a clerk said: "What do you want to drink with that?" and I said: "A little of everything but the diet stuff." He looked at me like I grew a second head, but the woman beside him at the next register said: "Ah, a sewer water!" and he looked at her like she had...

    Lacstarb

As someone who tends to make "sewer water" at self-service beverage bars (i.e. "a little bit of everything") ... never had any kind of cider in the mix, but pretty much had the rest together. As long as you don't mix diet and regular stuff, it's usually not TOO bad... Usually.

Ideas you once thought were original but later found out were generic

Phillip K. Dick kind of suggested this idea in some of his stories in the 60s, so even The Matrix was not original!
