    Writing Chapter headlines

It's a matter of personal style. My wife listened to part of (she got sick of it about 30 chapters in) an audionovel where the chapter headers were just a character name and "POV" (and I would not be surprised if that story prompted PocketFM's current "Use Point of View for point of view, not...

    Never mind

The war was lost The treaty signed I was not caught I crossed the line I was not caught Though many tried I live among you Well-disguised I had to leave My life behind I dug some graves You'll never find The story's told With facts and lies I had a name But never mind Never mind Never mind The...

    One sentence ghost stories.

I thought the interest of that beautiful woman seemed too good to be true, until I noticed the word "CORONER" on her jacket...

    Never mind

My impression of the blurb made it sound like Richard Nixon, so probably would be more amusing than helpful.

New writer, how does anyone get readers here?

Your post moved me - I could visualize someone using ransomware to infect other computers. I think we could work together to great a great manga. Instant message me on my MySpace account if you'd like to hear more.

    Painful realization

Consider the "far too tough drill sergeant" as a model - this guy firmly believes that the only way to get positive results is through being the enemy of his charges, so he is as mean and tough as possible. Sometimes he gets a little too much into the role, sometimes he even starts to lose...

    Should I continue writing?

Yes, always, even if you know it sucks. Writing is the only way to improve, regardless, and sometimes the stories just HAVE to get out.

What is the hardest, heaviest, lightest, and easiest part of writing the plots in your novel?

Having spent a lot of time "in" the Star Wars universe, a firm knowledge of science can get in the way of SW scenarios. It helps a LOT with B5, Star Trek, etc. but is NOT an asset with Star Wars. Knowledge of classic and Asian cinema is far more useful, especially old war movies and martial...

Writing Would it make sense to use the stream-of-consciousness writing technique?

The only professional writer I am aware of (other than ones writing CYOA-type books, like the Lone Wolf series, etc.) is Ramsey Campbell, and he has some great 2p horror shorts.

    Reading mode

This is not always the case. About 75% of the stories I've looked at had short chapters, but the rest had really long ones where this could be useful.

What little details irks you when reading?

Two things generally get me angry enough to swear off an author: Inconsistency that is not justified (shifts in tone can work if you're going first person, or third limited and the focal character would just see things differently, but sudden tonal shifts are just jarring and can kill the story...

Writing Would it make sense to use the stream-of-consciousness writing technique?

Those, "boxed text" in roleplaying game modules, some old computer games and a few short horror stories are the only effective uses of Second Person I've seen. It gets tedious in long-form stories in my experience.

What is the hardest, heaviest, lightest, and easiest part of writing the plots in your novel?

Hardest: Not moving on to a different story Heaviest: Forcing plot points that made sense initially, are needed for the overall story, but no longer slip in seamlessly Easiest: Light banter Lightest: Light banter

    No reviews

I've found that the few times I review a story before it is complete, nothing more gets written so I stopped.

    Catfished by a Femboy Fox

(I've known more male Stacy's than female ones - two vs. one - and the female spelled it "Stacey") "Hey, hey - I'm not into dudes or you'd be my type. Honestly. Let's go out as friends and, uh, wing beings and see if at least one of us can get lucky, Okay?"

Do you listen to voice actors to decide who would be a good fit for your characters?

Not intentionally but occasionally I hear one who seems like a perfect match.

The first murder of my mystery novel has finally occured!

Check out Sharon McCrumb's "Bimbos of the Death Sun" - pretty sure the murder happens around chapter eleven or so (she was having too much fun lampooning fan con culture to get to that part of the story; the sequel, "Zombies of the Gene Pool," got to the point faster, but also relied on a trick...

The first murder of my mystery novel has finally occured!

I have to admit I'm not sure it would work in a webnovel but I have seen "cozy mysteries" that went about fifteen or twenty chapters before the real story began (though one of them featured a vampire detective, which was ... unusual).
