    How does ranking work?

Legend has it that the ranking system just appeared one day with no explanation, so not even the site owner can tell you how it works....

    Sports, I Love Reality

If you don't mind reading print or e-texts on a reader, Robert E. Howard (you know, the guy who created Conan?) had a lot of sports stories. Lost my Kindle Omnibus to a badly done upgrade so only read one of the boxing stories but sports were his third most prolific area of writing (Sword &...

The misfortune of Ai writing style

I used to use them a LOT, even had the ASCII code to insert them into Windows files memorized (along with ° and the values for some fractions) because it is useful if you expect the text to be read aloud - shows where a longer pause needs to be made, to reflect a shift in focus and thought...

    Writing Does NOT Equal Endorsment!

There is quite a lot of hedonism going on at the Temple of Earth's Bounty in Rhyven on Pyrroth, especially among the Healers (their gifts force them to see the world at its ugliest so they also look for it at its most beautiful and celebrate it when they find it. Frequently and quite...

I too, have appeared on the 'Treading' list :3

Is anyone else on the Dreading List? (congratulations - beat my best by at least 12 spaces).

Any of ya'll use Bluesky or X to promote your work?

I would if I could keep up a steady release schedule, but until I can, I do no direct promotion. (I would use Twitter, FaceBook and Substack for promotion, as well as the Discord server for PocketFM).

    Should I quit writing?

Depends on where you're contracted to. I'm kind of stuck with PocketFM at the moment myself but I keep plugging along there.

The stories you never wrote. Post those misbegotten and unborn phantasms here.

Except you based it in the USA from the sound of things, it sounds a good deal like the international "Shadow Syndicate" team from DC Comics' old "Milestone" imprint (not sure if they brought them back when they brought back some of the other titles a few years ago or not). A group of...

    Gay Characters in Fiction

Only read a paragraph before someone warned me that EVERYONE gets it on with Xena, male and female... but mostly Gabrielle.

The stories you never wrote. Post those misbegotten and unborn phantasms here.

Heh - reminds me of something I started to create, believe it or not, as a proposal for a television series - it wound up a couple of scenes in Strange Awakening and an oblique reference in Blood Diamond. XNS: The Extranormal Squad When the world was forced to accept the existence of...

Opinion on romance in my story

Nah - a lot of people have that same view. I generally go the other way to NOT wanting them to fall into bed together (or at least doing a "James Bond Fade to Black Fade Back In To One Of Them Waking Up In Bed and The Other Half Dressed out of it" if they must). I liked Sense and Sensibility...

Warning to all Authors, do not fall victim to "professional editors."

99.9% likely to be a scammer just from that blank profile alone.

How much does launch matter? And does irregular posting hurt discoverability

Generally it's best to be able to post two to five chapters in the first twenty four hours of going live, and then maintain a steady schedule you can live with after that.

    Title and Hotel Name Help

Well, Perdition was part of the title of a crime movie (Road to Perdition), and a forgotten city in Illinois (later renamed and absorbed by a larger community). It refers to a state of damnation or corruption. Gehenna ... let's see - it's one of the "evil" Lower Planes in D&D and something in...

Writing How do you choose/find titles for your chapter?

Usually I have a vague idea when I start the chapter - not always, but usually. If the idea still fits when I'm halfway through, it stays. If I didn't have an idea, or the idea no longer fits, I usually stop a little after the halfway point and go back and brainstorm for something.

    Writing Does NOT Equal Endorsment!

I think that sentence is missing a few words: "I am an expert in triggering violent fantasies in others, usually involving what they will do to me if we ever meet off line, and I understand that not everyone has cool ones..."

    Anyone else not getting emails?

I know one site that had a feature like that that "failed" after about ten replies. Don't think they ever found a way to fix it either- might be the same thing here, once the thread gets past a certain length, it stops recognizing new posts to send an email about?

    Anyone else not getting emails?

I didn't know that was an option and never had any!

    Gay Characters in Fiction

One reason I tend to avoid fan fiction was discovering the existence of Xena fanfics that went into explicit detail... At least most of the KirkSpock stories didn't go that far (I've heard one DID but I've only seen two, and they were quite mild - one so much so it was included in a collection...
